Recommendations for PAC hunt...?
Gentlemen,
Can anyone recommend an outfitter or hunt company that offers PAC (problem animal control) hunts for lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, etc.
Or point me in the right direction for such information...?

Regards,
Joe V.

If I was in the market for a PAC hunt, this would definetly be it:

I have not hunted with Zambezi hunters yet, but have met both principals, Jonathan and Alistair. Both are stand up guys. And, the area for elephant would be hard to beat.

Since there are no 'approved' PAC hunts by foreign nationals in Zim and no 'legal' PAC eles in Mozambique...I would steer clear of the word.

Zim operators will of course continue to offer 'management' hunts...but the new government ruling effectively pushes the price up. PAC lion and Leopard...they do occur, but usually at very short notice and there is real pressure on the local operator to kill them quickly so they usually get shot by the appie PH on the ground.

JoeV - Assuming you are a hunter looking for "PAC" hunts, be very careful and check everything out before booking.

Subject: WARNING - PAC LION HUNTS MAT. NORTH ZIMBABWE.

WARNING
PAC Lion hunts offered in Gwaai and Matetsi areas, of Zimbabwe.

It has come to our attention that some people may possibly have booked hunts for PAC lions in the Gwaai/Matetsi areas of Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe.

After discussion with National Parks it is our understanding that these hunts are bogus. The only licences issued for lion hunts in the Matabeleland North areas are for Trophy Lion Hunts.

Anyone who has booked and/or paid for a PAC Lion hunt, please ask your booking agent for a copy of the PAC Permit and Authority to Hunt a PAC Lion, and please advise SOAZ on e-mail soaz@mweb.co.zw.

Yours sincerely

It has come to light that there is an operator going around selling PAC lions in the Gwayi/Matetsi area in Zimbabwe for around $26,000. It is now come to light from a reliable source that has approached national parks department about this that these hunts have not been issued or permitted by National Parks, which means that there are NO PAC lions available in the Gwayi. Anyone who has booked or paid for one of these hunts, please contact SOAZ at soaz@mweb.co.zw. Please use the reference, PAC LIONS.

Agreed, PAC = problem animal control. That is like someone breaking into your house and you calling your brother who lives on the other side of the country to see if he would mind coming over on his vacation. The animal needs to be harvested like RIGHT NOW!!! They dead guy who broke into my house; he'll keep overnight this time of year in the yard.

Seriously. This might work for someone like me who is retired and could get on a plane as fast as Kathi Klime @ Wild Travel could get me on a flight, or for someone who is financially secure enough to book and go whenever they want.

This is what I saw, and what reputable people here share.

There are some areas in Zim where elephant depredations on native crops occur every year with regular and predictable frequency. In these areas the outfitters can book PAC elephant hunts even several years into the future.

Exactly! As 465 said the elephants are in the maize every year about this time making advance sales of these non-trophy elephant completely possible with the caveat that if for some reason the elephants are not available the client's deposit will be returned in full.

Once again parks have jumped on PAC, and since they have allowed various 'companie' to shoot the parks ration quota with clients instead of appie PH's are now demanding that all PAC is done ONLY by Zim citizens...

So there are 'management' hunts Wink, but no (legal) PAC in Zim

Does that also pertain to communal lands?
