Gerhard.DelportAfrican Bow hunt in Kudu Paradise
I have just returned from one of the most awesome bow hunting concessions in South Africa I have ever seen.
www.africabowhunt.comThe outfitter: Danie van Jaarsveld
The Professional Hunter: Pieter van Aard
My target species for the 5 days was management Impala rams.
I must say I had the time of my live sitting in neat comfortable pit blinds and elevated hides.
Never a dull moment with the amount of animals visiting the water holes.
The property is situated on the Matlabas river in the Limpopo province.
In front of the lodge:
Sun Rise
I have never seen so many trophy Kudu in my life. If you are prone to Kudu fever you might not survive a day in the hide. To have 12 + kudu with in 20 yards all around you with at least 5 shooters may just be to much to handle for the weak hart…
If you want to harvest a trophy kudu with the bow this is the place. Here are some of the visitors:
Kudu is not the only game that has great genes on this property.
Have a look at this Blue Wildebeest Bull.
I was lucky enough to harvest two Impala rams.
These two guys were past their prime and two old fighters but in my book still awesome trophies.
For the bow hunter this is really paradise with a target rich environment. You will not get better client service, accommodation and food ask the guys that come back for 8 safaris in a row.

eyedocThose are a couple of nice old rams. The second with the broken tip must have been quite the warrior.
We seldom get to choose
But I've seen them go both ways
And I would rather go out in a blaze of glory
Than to slowly rot away!

Gerhard.DelportThanks,
That second ram has the most caracter I have ever seen in an impala.

300magmanThis looks like a great place to bowhunt. I have been looking for a place set up well for bowhunting in South Africa. Thanks for the post.

JVinAKI noticed they have nyala on their trophy list - did you see any of them? How would you rate the trophy quality?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have seen a couple of nice Nyala bulls around the river as well as lots of bush buck.
On this property you might just be able to hunt Kudu, Eland, Nyala and Bush buck on the same trip.

TheBigGuyNo lie! That place has some nice Kudu!
You did well concentrating on those impala with that kind of distraction.
I wonder is he hiding any whopper waterbuck as well?

How many bowhunters stalk game in Africa?
I am curious as most DVD's I have show stand hunting over a waterhole.
Is the success rate simply too low without the waterholes?
I am a newbie with a bow, but hope to come down for a bowhunt soon.
Thanks in advance,
Gabriel

Gabriel,
We have lots of opportunities to stalk game. But the challenge to get close in with in bow range.
Hunting from a blind or elevated stand is the preferred way of hunting. Even the experience bow hunters have a low kill ratio when it comes to walk and stalk.
You will not be sorry giving this outfit the opportunities to show you the ropes.

Must admit it was difficult with all that Kudu arround.
