Blair338/378Namibia with Mike Kibble: RECOVERED BULLET PICS NOW POSTED
Mac,
I'm going to take some photos of the recovered bullets when Australian customs/quarantine hands them over on Monday our time.
No specific pics of entry/exit wounds other than what you can see on the posted pics.
Your solid left about a .6 to .7 exit wound, after hitting the spine and blowing fragments through the wound.........you can see the exit in one of the pics.
The Naturalis used on the Blue Wildebeest, left an unbelievable blood trail, those pics are on Kibble's camera and he'll forward them to me shortly (he's currently competing in the Zambezi Fishing Classic)

MacifejLook forward to seeing the photos. Would have been interesting to see that FN after transiting through the Giraffe. Need a tougher target I guess...

29 August 2008, 11:03
Blair338/378We tried to line up about 4 or 5 Hartebeest for a shot with your FN......Kibble thought it would be hilarious.........he was very impressed by it's performance on the Giraffe....it just needed more backstop!

Kibble sounds like family...

Blair338/378He has a great sense of humor, which appeals to Aussies , but not that much to Dutchmen, except when they have had their usual ration of brandy.

And he can SHOOT!!!

MacifejThe Dutch are over-rated...let me know when you're going back.
30 August 2008, 14:16
Blair338/378I will. Probably will be 2010 as it's his 40th birthday and the celebrations will be something. Will do a hunt with him prior.
He takes some serious buffalo up on the Caprivi, much better than I have seen previously from there. He has some good areas evidently.

Randy,
How did you know?

We had a cask strength single malt from Aberlour; "Al Banadh".....at 59.3%; that cured him of guzzling malt whisky for a while!!!
We also drank An Cnoc, The Macallan Eleganzia and Ardbeg 10.
The brandy we took the Dutchmen was a limited edition from RSA called Kaalpicht....they polished it off in two nights along with rivers of Klipdrift Gold. They were wild men, but really good blokes.

He is a great guy, a joke a minute, but when he's hunting, he's all business.
I learnt a lot, watching him set baits for the leopard. He clears the bush around the bases of the bait trees and then rakes it, so the foot prints show up. We just didn't have enough time

Good luck on your sheep hunt mate.

Too much bullet and too much gun Blair!! Have to drop down a few sizes for sniping big animals.
RIP finally caught one of them in his IWBB so we could have a look. I'm thinking the IWBB is a bit tougher on bullets than Mister Giraffe.
I'm starting to get the itch for a trip so might have to head over.

RIP does a good job

Bring some of your Kraut firewater for Kibble, that'll rock his world

He wants some of your FN's in 458, for his 458 Lott by the way.
And I have to send him some 200gr Lapua Naturalis for his 300 WM

MacifejNo problem...I'll send him some. He won't drink that Ratzeputz...too nasty!!

Blair338/378Have faith Jay, have faith!!

He'll drink it..
What did you think of the recovered Lapua Naturalis that came out of the Blue Wildebeest?

Looks good - do they always look like that when recovered? How hard is that plastic tip?
07 September 2008, 05:56
Blair338/378That is the first time I've recovered one. I didn't manage to get any out of the 'roos on a pre hunt shoot!
The tip makes the bullet a semi spitzer, they did tend to suffer some very minor damage from recoil, whilst in the magazine, as opposed to the Barnes TTSX, which has a very sharp point and seems to be made from harder polycarbonate.
The amount of "shock" they deliver seems at odds with the smooth mushroom, but they cetainly work........the other large animal taken with them was the Mountain Zebra, but the bullet exited even with a raking frontal shot.

Blair338/378Mac,
What weights will you make for 458 in a FN?
And what material would you suggest for elephant?

For you..?? Mike..?? Or what would I use..??
For you guys I'd use the same material as the .338 you have in a 450. Drive it as fast as you can stand...
07 September 2008, 10:27
Blair338/378For Mike in his 458 Lott. Sorry Mac, should have been clearer.
And what material would you suggest for the intended use by Kibble, ie: elephant?
So from your previous post, you'd go with brass? What weight would you suggest for the 458 Lott?
Thanks mate.

07 September 2008, 10:36
MacifejYessir.....458" as in Lott x 450 grain Brass FN. Should manage around 2450 - 2500 FPS.
07 September 2008, 10:53
Blair338/378Sounds good.
I'll let Mike Kibble know. He loved the way the 225 FN dropped the Giraffe

Other than for elephant I can't imagine needing more bullet than that .338 FN.
However, we can make whatever Mike wants in any caliber...
08 September 2008, 10:46
Blair338/378Thanks Mac.
Mike couldn't believe that you made up the custom weight for me and the other guys....he went into overdrive when he heard that!
I know he has your website URL as he was looking at it while I was at his ranch, immediately after the giraffe succumbed to S&H Precision!

MacifejWell Mate...when you speak to Herr KIbble let him know I'll be sending him some "exotic" projectiles for his personal amusement and general entertainment.

09 September 2008, 12:10
Blair338/378He'll be rapt.
What do you have in mind when you say "exotic"?
He thought the FN's in a custom weight were pretty good
