zimFrostyTop PHS
I read with Interest the Thread by OZhunter"post the names of good PHs here.
I would be really interested to delve a bit deeper into the subject. There have no doubt been countless discussions on this topic and many different views. I think it would be an idea for every AR member to post a rating on a PH following any hunts they have had. Perhaps with their Hunt report...BUT heres the thing , it should be based on a standard assessment. Ie a set of criteria that AR members agree on. Each criteria has a rating of 1 to 10. The PH is rated for each(honestly) and a total given.
I understand the complexities , but info is always good. Would like to hear ideas on what criteria should be used etc.......

Idaho SharpshooterOne easy one; will the PH place himself between the client and an aroused DG animal. IE, will he be willing to die, if need be, to save the client's life.
The rest is just frosting on the cake.

TerryRI guess that the answer depends;
Is the IS's PH brave or kinky?

David WBrave for sure in my case.
I was hunting with Brent Hein in Zim last week. We were charged by a lion we had spooked off a kill. He came from about 70 yards on rails with full Dolby surround sound. Brent turned him at 7 paces with a shot in the dirt.

Funny. Thought the same thing. Glad I'm not the only one who finds humor at a junior high level.

zimFrostyWell which is better an aroused PH or an Aroused DG??Depends on where you are from I guess
When you leave Africa and th PH you just hunted with is now one of your best friends and extended family member, that's an "Outstanding PH"!

ddrhookI would say when your PH's wife whom you have not meet in person yet sends you adoption papers saying they have adopted your 55 yr old ass that would rank right up there with the best PH

zimFrostyherewith my thoughts on the criteria. These are just thoughts and I would welcome other opinions
1/ Pre Hunt Comms : Open , honest forthright communications, speed of response to questions, eas of booking etc etc
2/ Meet and Greet/ pick up planning / overnight accom etc etc
3/ Facilities at Camp and overall Camp rating
4/ PH knowledge of area and wildlife
5/ PH interaction with Staff(trackers, skinners, Camp staff)
6/ PH team abilities on spoor/locating Game etc
7/ Team performance during "contact"
8/ Trophy recovery /skinning etc
9/ How well clients needs/requirements were listened to and met
10/ Client happiness 10 excellent 1 poor
I am not in anyway trying to create a ranking system , but I do want to get an idea of what clients Need, want, expect etc. There are a vast variety of camps and personalities out there and every client has different expectations so creating a "norm" would be extremely difficult....but its fun trying!!!!
