I am thinking of hunting Namibia in 2005 and would be interested in recommendations from anyone who has hunted there recently.

Fergus, I highly recommend Vaughan Fulton. He owns an operation "Classic Safaris" and several AR members including myself have hunted with him.

He now has close to 800,000 acres of unfenced communal land bordering Etosha Park.

I second Mike's recomendation. While I have not yet hunted with them, I am in the process of putting the final touches on my 2005 hunt with Classic Safaris and really looking forward to it. If you do a search on here for Vaughan Fulton, you will find that many members highly recommend him. I would suggest you contact Wendell Reich at Hunter's Quest International . Wendell has been extremely helpful to me in planning my first trip to Africa.

it would useful to know what your expectations are!
Safari camp or lodge? What animals are you after? How many days? What terrain etc etc.
There are many outfitters to recomend but all have a different style and differnt things to offer. The question would be, wich one would suit you best! Give us more details and we'll work something out.

I too would recommend a hunt with Vaughan. My dad and I hunted with him this June and took several nice trophies and had the best hunt of our lives. That safari (the first for each of us) was all I expected and more. We left wanting for nothing.

Depends on what you are looking for....I reccomend Christie De Souza because I know him. I also heard good things about Vaughan but I reccomend what I know, and I hope to return some day to Christie's place. But I think that it depends on what you are looking for.
Despite where you go, YOU WILL LOVE NAMIBIA !!!!

While I have not gone yet, I am booked with Vaughan in May 2005. I have emailed Vaughan and/or his wife several times and he has always been most helpful - even with my newbie questions! I did "talk" with several of the AR guys and got nothing but great comments. I am looking forward to my hunt and hope that you are able to hook up with Vaughan too.

Thanks for the info. That�s an awful lot of recommendations for Vaughan Fulton so I guess he is doing something right! I will follow him up.

For those wanting more back ground on what I am after in the hunt: I am looking for a plains game hunt, approximately 10 days, 2x1 with a friend of mine. This will be his first safari, but I have been to Africa 3 times previously (Zimbabwe, South Africa & Zambia). Accommodation wise, I have never found an African camp that was a problem � even the more basic ones are still at a very high standard from my experience. So I guess most accommodation on offer (short of a backpacking hunt) would be ok.

My son and I hunted Namibia this May. We had a ball. We hunted 10 days. We each shot 7 different animals. Kudu, Oryx, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, Duiker, Steenbuck and Warthog. 3 of mine made Rowland Ward and 2 of my sons made it. We aren't trophy hunters. We just wanted better than average animals. We got them.
The PH we hunted with is Hentie Van Heerden. He's a one man operation. Small but real a good guy. His prices were cheaper than any others we could find. I've only been to Africa once, and am certainly not an expert, but I'd recommend him to anyone. I'm not a booking agent, just an average hunter. His email is vhsaf@mweb.com.na Drop him a line. My son and I got back a month ago from Kamanjab Trophy Hunting in the northwest of Namibia a month ago. Mims Reed from HuntersHQ books for the ranch which I recommend without reservation. Animals, accomodations, hospitality were all first class. I have a number of posts on this forum in the past month that will give you a feel for our hunt. I think Mims' web site is hunters-hq.com

Kamanjab is a great value and great experience for a first plains game hunt. Bob
