Back from Zim with pictures
Hello All, Everyone had a excellent hunt with Pro Safari and professional hunter Norman Crooks. My two traveling companions hunted Omay South and took nice buffalo for the first part of the hunt and then shared camp with me near West Nicholson where I was hunting leopard and plains game.
We have been seeing lots of leopard tracks. 3rd morning of the hunt
leopard had eaten one of the impala baits. Ph gets excited track
of a top ten cat. The tracker followed by sight for 4 hours and 10
kilometers. Tracker then spotted the cat walking on top of granite mountain
at 300 yards. Hurriedly I get the 300 win mag on the sticks and the
bullet hits right behind shoulder quartering away. The cat rolls
twice and falls fifty feet over cliff edge and all on video. The
spotting of the leopard and the shot all happened in just seconds.

Nice! When you posted a pic on AH, the only thing I focused on was the huge skull that leopard had! Definitely nice trophies all.

Stunning trophies and pictures, which will be perfect to hang on the wall until the trophies are mounted. That leopard is going to make a great full-mount! Congratulations, and many thanks for posting.

Beautiful trophies! How much does the leopard weigh? It looks huge.

cjw,
Unfortunately we didn't have a scale but the experts estimated between 190 and 200 lbs. I know I wouldn't want to tangle with that tomcat. Luckily he was dead on the first shot because by the time I got up on top of that granite mountain I was exhausted and out of breath.
Ryan Neal from African Action Videos caught the shot on tape. I should have copies of the finished dvd in a couple of months for anyone wanting to see it. Ryan was excellent, he is a learner ph and never interfered with the hunting and in fact spotted game a couple of times when no one else did.

Mother! T, do you mean to tell us you shot the cat @ 300 yds! Different world! How did your PH feel about that?? What a super cat!

mho The tracker threw the sticks up and the cat looked tiny I didn't have time to take my scope off 3x. I think the ph couldn't believe I hit it. Me and my buddy, who also went on this trip, have been reloading and practicing off the sticks every day we are off and I would have to say it payed off. And I would rather be lucky than good Wink My friend had to take his family to disney world as soon as he got home but when he gets back he can tell you about being charged by his first buffalo on his first hunting day in Africa.

Now that's the kind of leopard I want. Looks like one of those PhD ranch leopards that finally made a mistake. Did you track him with those hounds?

Other trophies are very nice also.

I hunted with Norman last year for buffalo and plains species, he has gotten a lot of nice cats out of West Nicholson. Did he have an appy working for him named Grant Nells? If so, how was he doing? Met him last year, nice kid, just wondering.Congrats on a super chui.

CFA,
Normans Mozambique Tracker named Dumas followed this cats tracks by sight. The dogs were brought out about half way thru and they started baying when they got close to the Kope.
I believe the lepoard was sleeping in the rocks heard the dogs and tried to slip out. So you could say it was a team effort.

Head Trauma,
You should really go back and hunt one of those big cats.
Yes Grant is still there and enthusiastic as ever.

Great photos and story! Seems like you had a very productive safari. Do the klipspringer life size as well. I just had mine back from the taxidermist and it`s a fascinating and beautiful animal. It deserves full size mount on top of a "rock", hung pretty high on the wall... Smiler
