Namibia more things to think about! + Baboon pics!
After reading everyones lesson's learned, I wanted to echo a few lines.

I booked through a booking agent, and that I can recommend. There are some firms that have been around a long time and have American bank acounts, those are rare.

My bank charged me $50 to wire money into a foreign acount to pay the remainder of the hunt.
I think this was way better than taking $4000 in cash on a safari someplace i had never been. You might feel differently about it, but I hate to think of what would have happened if I lost that money.

Air Namibia wasn't wonderful but it was nice enough. The seats backs adjust strangely and I wasn't as comfortable as I am in the Continental trans-atlantic flights. Plenty of leg room, I am 5'11.

I only recomend using borrowed guns if you know your getting a rifle equal or better than what you have at home. I was in denial when I booked the hunt about the quality of rifle I would be given and won't make that mistake again. It cost me 2 animals we lost, and almost cost me 2 more.

PMP sucks! It's the cheapest ammo in RSA and Namibia so bring your own, and your own guns, that you know and shoot and love.

I reccomend good bullets. I didn't have the bleeding I am used to. Bring good quality controlled expansion bullets.

Don't let problems get you down. Be honest with your PH if your unhappy. I was and it didn't work but at least I didn't lose sleep over the deception

D99, I can shoot any rifle but when I am paying for a hunt...I will be damn particuliar about what rifle I will use...That brings up a very good point..Trophy fees...I believe in using as much gun as one can shoot...Yes I have the basic 30 cal rifles 308 , 06, 300mag...But when one looks at the expense of the total safari, I believe in jumping up to a 338 or 375H&H..You will be able to drive the bullet from stem to stern on just about any animal...Big holes lots of damage and lots of leaking blood..
Most importantly premium bullets and maybe even one's own handloads, custom made ammo..

Hi,
D99, I am sorry if your hunt didn't live up to expectations.
Could you tell us if the PMP ammo failed, and on which game animals? I am curious, as I used it in a 300 Winchester with fairly good results.

The bullets didn't stay together at all. They were fine on steenbok (a 22 would be fine on steenbok), sprinbok, and blesbok. But man on oryx, zebra, red hartebeast and kudu, I don't beleive they were tough enough to work. We had our work cut out for us on tracking and recoverys.

The hunting was great, but we had some serious mis-communication issues that I am not going to get into.

Fair enough.
