Obviously Mr. Carr knows who his family is, but unless his family name has changed from Carsizrowsikowski or something similar (which happened quite often with immigrants in America), it is fairly likely that the Carrs in question are DISTANT relations of his, but we may be talking a common ancestor 500 or 600 years back.

I'm of Scottish ancestary. "Carr" is a corruption (actually a sept of the Kerr clan) of the Scottish "Kerr". {Pronounced differently sometimes as "kur" or "care" - but it is pronounced as "car" by the the Kerr clan.} Many of my generation remember the actress Deborah Kerr (pronounced as "car").

I don't know the origins of the Carr-Hartley clan nor of Donald Ker (pronounced as "car") of Ker & Downey fame. Nor of Norman Carr (famed Zambian conservationist).

The Kerr clan is from the Borders region (the border of Scotland and England) and has a bit of a reputation as thieves (reivers).

The clan chief at the time of the storming of Ferniehurst was Sir John Kerr. After the battle he and his men played handball with the severed heads of their enemies. A game known as "Jedburgh Ba'" and based on this ancient and gory victory is played today, but with leather balls as substitutes for English heads.

We have a Kerr's creek area just northwest of Lexington, VA. Also pronounced "car" in this area.

Mother's family name is McCauley, those that weren't hung as horse thieves..... It was widely known that stealing from the English or even killing one of them was not a criminal act, for the times.
