StefanImport guns to RSA?
I´m about to go to RSA to do some hunting and I´m trying to sort the paiperwork out...... I tried to search on the forum for info and there is plenty of good info around but I feel that I need to ask a few questions to be sure I´m not messing things up!
Do I need a invitation from my guide to get the guns into RSA?
If I need a invitation can the person meeting me at the airport bring the paiper or do I need it with me on the trip from Sweden?
Anything else I need to think about.........
Stefan
You need an invitation from your PH on letterhead which lists his license #'s, your dates, the calibers of your rifles, etc.
You need a license for your firearm -- or if your country doesn't issue them, some other proof of ownership (in the US, we can get a customs form).
You will need your passport -- and if treaty requires -- visa.
You may need to show proof of insurance, etc -- but that's getting further from the origional question about firearms.
When you arrive, your firearms will be sent to a special pickup area in the luggage check area. You must fill out a South African Police Services (SAPS) license application (or get one from the web and fill it out before you come). Then you go to the SAPS office and get your firearms inspected and forms processed. Some people may ask for coffee money... Compared to the US, many of these people work much harder than what you find here and earn their coffee money if you give them 1/2 a chance.
Good luck!

ChrisTroskieStefan, your outfitter can bring your invitation to you at the airport but rather have him send you an invitational letter in advance - that way you know you've got it when you arrive and there's no chance of him forgetting to bring it along.
