I'll keep moving until I can keep mine. And I hope the politicians realize that means I'll be taking my Company (Defenshield Inc.)with me... Anyone else realize why NY state is losing people faster than ANY other state?

I'm sure the ban will be statewide first and then national. More people in the US have been killed with golf clubs. Does ANYONE REALLY NEED golf clubs?

Someone who does not speak English will scratch his head and will probably indicate to you the way to go to rue du Croissant thinking that there is a ball there.
But usually an english speaking French will help you.

Remember that most of the .50 BMG ammo, bullets and brass, and many of the barrels, were sold to U.S. civilians by the government as surplus. So even if a ban were to occur, there would be a grandfather clause which would essentially render the ban meaningless.

Take as a warning some of the measures enacted in Europe.

In some Swiss Cantons you are not allowed to have telescopicially sighted rifles unless over 60 years old and have a letter from your doctor concerning your poor eye sight.

In Greece, I believe you are not allowed to have scope sights at all.

A lady Greek Socialist member of the European parliament was pushing a law which would ban all firearms which were not used in the Olympics, which were bigger than .22LR in calibre, which had a ramge greater than 100m and were exceptionally accurate (?) Seems a bit contradictory to me, but I'm no politician or lawyer.

There has been the odd mutterings from the British government about "sniper" rifles (sic). Apparently, civilians should not have access to this type of 'military' weapon.

Trouble is, just about every hunting rifle made the last 100 years is more reliable and accurate than the SA80! And what about the target rifles used at Bisley? Then there are varmint rifles, are n't these just civillian sniper rifles?

They could be redefined as such if it suits some government civil servant. The truth is a super elastic commodity, made to conform with whatever passes as current government policy.

The ultimate irony concerning infantry rifles is the British, with the help of refugee Polish and Czech engineers came up with a world beating, futuristic rifle in 1947/48 -

Bullpup design - so like fire fighting equipment makes use of the brain - hand co-ordination of one hand being able to find the other in the dark, under stress etc

Chambered for a lower powered assault rifle cartridge - a nominal 7mm / .277 inches with a 43mm case (The military across the world discovered that troops do not need to tote a big game capable chambered rifle etc)

The tactic of the gun-grabbers is to start large and work their way down. The people whose opinion of firearms the grabbers seek first to sway are non-shooters. It is easy to convince a mother of two young kids in northeastern New York state that a big, loud, powerful, fierce-looking, long-range rifle like a 50 is "something nobody really needs." From there, they work down and down and down until a big, loud, powerful, fierce-looking, long-range rifle like a 22LR is "something nobody really needs." "Those Ruger 10/22 rifles with those skeletonized stocks and heavy barrels are so ugly. They look like something a terrorist or criminal would use against my child. They should be banned!" Get it...?

The text of the Proposed New York State ban give the owner 30 days to turn the rifle into the police. And it's passed the assembly.

"Legislation was heard Tuesday May 17 in the New York State Assembly Codes Committee that will ban the .50 caliber rifle. The legislation (A4471), does allow for compensation by the state to current owners, but only at a "fair market value" (translated: whatever they feel they want to pay you and not to exceed $8,500). In addition, the law gives you only 30 days to dispose of your rifle and you must turn your rifle into the state police PERSONALLY."
