Just finished reading the the March issue of Shooting Times. Wow a T/C Contender pistol in 375 JDJ. Anyone out there shoot a SSK barrel in 375 JDJ? What is the recoil like?

PiebaldPretty mild after shooting 350gr hot loads out of an SSK 45/70. Reallly it ain't that bad. I have Pachmyer grips and shoot with a good pair of shooting gloves. Mines a 12" w/full lenght TSOB rib and mag-na ported. You still know something "BIG" just happened when you lower the hammer on a 375JDJ!!

Still CrawfishHave an SSK .411 JDJ that I love. Like it much better than my 45-70.

HBLI have a 375JDJ that was made for me by Mike Bellm back in 1988. My buddy had his from JDJ in 87. You couldn't tell the difference in appearance or performance between the barrels.
Mine is a 15" bull and my buddies is 14". REcoil is not that bad, using the pac gripper.
My preference would be to get this chambering done by a custom maker and not directly from TC, unless they construct it under the exact specs given them by JD.

McCluraI have a .375JDJ from SSK in stainless 14" for my Contender. It is a Shilen barrel. I wouldn't take for it now that I have worked up a couple of dandy loads for it in 220 grn and 260 grn bullets. Less recoil than my 45-70 14" Contender. I have Pachmyer Decelerator grips on it and this helps compaired to the wood I started with. You would think that TC would use the specs from JDJones since it is his cartridge and name. Never know. It is defintely a good round for whitetail, elk, hogs, or anything else you want to hunt. You can use the 200 or 220 grn bullets and have a load that is pleasant to shoot or you can go the 260 or 270 grn and build loads for anything that walks.

7-30 WatersDick Metcalf, Technical Editor for Shooting Times Magazine indicated that and I quote, "Long term fans of J.D. Jones and his SSK Industries Hand Cannon line should rest easy. Thompson/Center has consulted closely with J.D. in the developement of the new commercial line and gives him full credit". He is even quoted on the box of T/C ammo for the 375 JDJ.
I also took the time to call Hornady this morning. They said the only thing holding them back from putting the ammo on the market is T/C providing them with the boxes to put the loaded ammo in.
Hope T/C gets the boxes to market sooner than they took trying to get the new G-2 Contender out to the public. Three years was too long to waite and I am still waiting. No new changes for 2004 on the G-2 either. I was hoping for synthetic grips but no such luck. No stainless either.

BiathlonmanVelocity out of the the factory barrels looks to be considerably less then out of SSK barrels, at least according to the data included in that article. Hornady, Hodgden, and Accurate arms data looks to be running 75-almost 200 fps faster then the barrel tested.
I'm also quite suprised about the 220 flat point being the first commerical round. Really was expecting the 270 hornady but wouldn't have been suprised with the 225 SP. Wonder what the reasoning was there?

I just hope this drives up interest in the cartridge and more load data is brought forward. I would love to see data for R15 or Varget with the new 260gr. Accubond. It seems to be that combination could greatly exceed the performance of the classic AA2520 and 270gr Hornady load.

RobLoad data for the 260 Accubond is available fron JD Jones in the form of data for the 260 partition. It is actually a slightly lower max charge than for the 270 Horn.
