B_KoesSean's 22 short project
I'm dying to hear a report about this barrel because I want one for myself. Heck, I'd just about be willing to buy one brand new. There's some crows about 30 yards from my house that would really like to attest to its effectiveness!
Can any custom shop chamber for the .22 short with a match type chamber? Right now, all I see is Fox Ridge list a .22 short match chambering. Oh well, maybe I'll give VV Dave a call...

Sean VHA #60013BKoes,
Believe me, once the Heretic finishes the 22Short project, it will see ALOT of use, and I'll write about it and take plenty of pics
Interestingly, here has been a steady stream of interest and inquiry into this project, and I get frequent private e-mails inquiring after it, which makes me quite happy! When I first posted about the idea, I thought I would have to write long apologetical letters defending the concept and it's very particular application in my varmint hunting, but it seems that there are actually other interested "rimfire varminters" out there with somewhat similar and like minds
I anticipate that this barrel will be here in time for fall and winter Crows, Starlings, Squirrels, Chipmunks, Opossums, and whatever other opportune varmints poke themselves into my view
When finished, it will look alot like the 22lr Match Contender 14" configuration below, save that it will wear an old but increadibly accurate Steel tube Weaver K10 with A/O, and the barrel will be blue. Same thumbhole grip etc.

Sean VHA #60013Mike,
YES! Hey, I'd not want to hold up the ol' Coon Bone: he might start get Antsey or somthing.....who knows what might happen then? He might even revert back to using his "Sexy Jules" moniker, and cause us all an extended bout of nausia

B_KoesWell Sean, Dave set me up so it's a race to see who gets the barrel first!

After hearing about the idea of putting together a .22 short barrel some time ago, I just couldn't stand it any longer. I've got all sorts of critters within spittin range of my house that aren't going to be safe anymore! I'm very anxious to find out what kind of accuracy is possible with a barrel like this.
I was thinking that a barrel like this should have about a 50 yard range for birds and little critters...does that agree with your thinking? I've been looking at all the different kinds of ammunition that I can use in it...
CCI CB short
CCI short target
Auuilla colibri
Aguilla super colibri
high velocity short solids
high veloicty short hollow points
but I really think that all those subsonic rounds are what the doctor ordered so it is as quiet as a mouse. Hmmm...lots of mice around. I wonder if they would like to pose for my new barrel??

Mike BellmYou gotta use a scope that does not tickle critters with the crosshairs.

***CSC: I think that such barrels will be inherently very accurate, so long as the proper chamber philosophy is followed. With the subsonic rounds, barrel harmonics will be even less of an issue than with the normal to HV 22lr stuff

***CSC: 50 to 75 yards is what I have envisioned for such a barrel. I can hit very accurately out to 75 yards on paper with the CCI CB Shorts out of a rifle I have that prefers these, and on Starlings etc, it does not take that much to cleanly dispatch the varmint.

***CSC: Yes, in addition to all the above is the Eley - Rapid Fire Match, which at 750 fps is actually at or just under the velocity of the CCI CBShorts.
There is also Lapua - Rapid at 780 fps, Fiocchi - SM 200 at 600fps, and RWS - R25 at 560 fps, all at 29grns.
Lots of very accurate options out there, and one might laugh at taking mice, but there are A LOT of field rats, voles, etc around here that get into the grain bins and hay lofts, and so in addition to crows, starlings, and other winged varmints, such a barrel would be great to dispatch this guy!
