NRCRe: 357 Max to 35 Whelen?
Another option might be to look at the 358 Win... ?
It'd fall somewhere between the max and the whelen, brass is still easy to make, and could be efficient for that bbl length.

mcbTo each his own but a 14 inch 35 Whelen does not sound very efficient, or much fun. How about a 35 Remington or maybe a 35/444 (aka 358 JDJ)? Good hunting!

daveinthebushThey have different rates of twist. Some say that it just doesn't matter but with the heavier bullets the slower twist of the Whelen just might.

The case capacity of the 35 whelen and the 358 JDJ are very close...

Competitor uses the same twist (1 in 10") for all the 35s!

pioneer outfittersHi Jason
I had a 358 Win. 14" barrel that I sold to Paul Dustin last year. I was getting 2100 fps. with 250 grn bullets and my cronograph reads a little low campared to others. It was an excellent shooter. By the way where is Paul these days. David.

sharps54Thanks for the replys, I will see what the .357 max is like once I receive the ejector and go from there. If I decide I want a .35 Whelen I may go ahead an just buy a 16" barrel and have both since I aready have dies and brass for both.
