crickerRed dot shot loose
My 15 inch 30-06 encore barrel has been giving me fits. I have not been able to get any decent groups. Today I found the problem, I am using a Redfield compact esd and it is moving in the rings. There is not enough room to add a third ring. Is there a trick to set this sight in place and stopthe shifting?
I really like the idea of shooting both eyes open for quick target accuisition. I have Tasco accudot on a 12 inch 223 and this works very well.
Any suggestions you can offer will be appreciated.
Thanks
Rick

<MePlat>Try some rubber cement on the rings. It sure won't hurt anything. Clean the sight and rings very well before you apply it.

JulesRick,
Get yourself some of them sticky labels. You know, the kind you use to write on and then peal the back off and stick them on something.
Line the inside of the top and bottom halfs of the rings, then trim off the excess with a sharp knive. Put your sight back on and your ready to go. I do this to all my scopes.

Magnum MikeThe rings are moving on the base?
If so, i had the same problem on a 10" 44mag with a 2x Leupold. I WAS using Burris Zee rings. I switched to the Leupold PRW and the problem went away. Those Burris Zee's actually cut into the aluminum Weaver base.

crickerThanks for the tips. It is a weaver base and redfield rings. It did mark the scope up pretty good and on dismantling the setup I found the rings had been moving in the base. It appears that the 30-06 may have way to much recoil for this sight and base combo. I am going to mount this setup on my 209X50 and put a three ring mount and new scope on my wish list. I have a 2X burris on my vvgc 6.5X55 and am now wishing I had gone with a 4X or more. This will probably move to the 06 and I will order somthing else for the 6.5.
Anyway this will have to wait till after deer season. I am headed back to the range this morning to sight in the 209X50 and put a few more rounds through the 6.5. The 06 will have to wait till I have more time.( and $$$$)
Regards
Rick

<Rem8mag>Is it just Weaver style rings/bases that are giving people trouble? I had a Redfield dot sight in Weaver style rings mounted on a B-Square base on my 45 LC Blackhawk that I rattled loose with 300 gr XTP's at 1400 fps. Warne rings (3) and T'sob bases on a 375 win and an 8mm JDJ Contender hold the scopes securely.

Magnum MikeThe cross slot "bar" on the Zee rings is quite a bit smaller than the Weaver's opening. I had the rings tightened WELL, didnt matter. The 240 grainers had that thing moving like mad, with in 10 rounds you could see bare aluminum. That is how i noticed it! This pic will help a little, i had to "file" the base to get the rings off of it....

The Leupold PRW or QRW rings fit the cross slot a little tighter, i have yet to have a problem with them using just 2 rings....

Grey EagleI had a 357 Herrett with an Aimpoint on a Weaver type aluminum base and had it wallow out. Conversely, I had a Tasco Pro-Point on a skinny barreled 45/70 with steel base and no problems.
