Anyone shooting a 338-06 or 338JDJ#2..?
I want to have OTT make me an Encore barrel.I just don't know what case to use.I hear that the 338JDJ#2 will push 180gr NBT's to 2500fps.Not sure what the 338-06 will do.Any help with this would be great thanks'

Nut, I should be receiving my 338x444 from OTT in the next few weeks. I'll let you know how it is, if you still have not made up your mind. It'll be for the Contender. If you want, I can e-mail you load data I got from a certain co. from Ohio. Let me know.

I shoot a 338-06JDJ which is for the Encore, this round is different than the standard 338-06, it has a short neck improved case with (I think) a 60 degree neck. It will shoot 200gr bullets a little over 2600fps and 180 to 2750 to 2800fps from a 15" barrel. MY barrel is a little over 16" with a break, I read an article somewhere that unbreaked in this calibre with heavy bullets is more than one wants to shoot. I use 35 Whelen brass to load with, If you use 30-06 brass you have to take the neck up to 35 calibre anyway then neck down in order to have a shoulder to fireform with.

Have you thought about the 338 winmag? I have a barrel that was done by VV that is a pleasure to shoot and is accurate with anything shot through it. Since you already shoot the 300 I think the 338 would be a perfect companion.

Does that 338Mag have a brake..?

This barrel has the removeable brake. With the brake installed it is super easy on the hand. Without the brake it recoils into the hand quite a bit. Without the brake the barrel is less than 14" long but still very easy to control. Recoil with the brake is about the same as my 300 with a brake. Can't shoot the 300 without it's brake so can't compare those. But I imagine they would be close.

Checked my data for the 338. I'm shooting Nosler BT 180g over 67g of RL15 at 2847fps. Groups around 1" at 100yds. No over pressure signs.Tried several other powders but did not get the combination of speed and accuracy.

[Confused] I just don't know what to get.The 338Mag is about like a 338-06JDJ with the 338x444 in the middle [Roll Eyes]
