6mm- 284 win in a contender
I see Van Horn chambers this round in a contender.
I guess you have to reduce the load a bit or do ya? It would look like quite a bit of velocity gain over the 6x223 that I have. I'm thinkin of having my 20" VVCG 6x223 rechambered to the 6mm-284. Any thought on this?

Must be a misprint.

Jules:
The 6mm-284 has to be a mistake. The pressures would definitely be too high. If you go further down the list of calibers and get to 6.5mm-284 and the parent cartridge 284 you will see that neither is recommended for the Contender. They are all in the same pressure range.

Jules,
Ditto on Outback's response. It is basically the same as a 6mm-06

Jules,

Whether Van Dummy will or won't chamber a Contender barrel in 6mmx284 is a moot point....

You'll stretch the frame and maybe destroy the whole gun or worse yourself if you shoot it with any load approaching what the cartridge was designed for....

Better pass and maybe even email him and question his sanity or typing ability....

Thanks for looking out for my safety guys.
I looked at some of the data on the 284win case and it's without a doubt waaaaaaay [Eek!] to much for a contender. I let Dave know about his misprint.
284 case in a contender??? What the hell am I thinking???? Someone smack me!!!

It's just a typo -- he lists the 6.5-.284 as a "no" for the Contender. Whoever set up his site just had a typo.

Jules;
Believe none that you hear, half of what you read and all that you know.

You all failed the test.

No one mentioned that with the larger DIAMETER of the .284 case, the SAME as a .45/70, it has to work at essentially the same max. pressure as a .45/70, which is somewhere between 28,000 and 32,000 psi.

Do you want to run a case full of powder behind a small diam. bullet at low pressure? Looks counter productive to me.

Reminds me of the Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy joke, but I'll contain myself.
