xphunterExperimenting w/high mag. rifle scopes on Specialty Handguns
This morning I got an education with a 6x24 B&L rifle scope. I have an MOA with 2-barrels (22-250AI & 260 Remington). I started with the 22-250 AI fireforming loads @ 100 yards. I was able to use the scope without getting kissed. When I switched barrels and started using the 260 I had noticeably more recoil but was still able to use the scope without getting hit. I get my sight picture, then back off till I see about 1/2 of a field of view on 20-24 power. I have learned I can use a high power rifle scope with both of my barrels (Both have brakes). Second, I learned that a long scope body with mount that comes from MOA is not conducive to accuracy. Either the scope has problems (which is a possibility) or since there is such a larger amount of unsupported scope body that it is flexing ever so little with the recoil. The single piece mount from MOA has the rings so close that I could barely use this scope to begin with since they are almost right up against the knobs. A base set-up that support the scope better will be better. Time and further experimenting will tell.
I did shoot my 284 XP @ 600 yards today. 6 shots into a six inch group @ 600 yards. I was fairly pleased. The wind was switching around on me. Then as a last shot I aimed at a target that was 12 inches wide by 3 inches high (@ 600 yards). I centerd the target att he top of it. It was a good way to end my long range part of the shoot.
All I can say is that it was a great morning!

B_KoesSounds like fun! If you keep posting stuff like this, then I'm going to have to get a XP so I can keep up with you. Obviously, the muzzle brake plays a key role in not leaving you with a sliced up eye. I have not yet worked up the guts to shoot my 7TCU with full power loads with a 24x scope on it yet, but it will happen soon. Yes, it also has a muzzle brake on it. I think it would be a hoot to load up some 160gr bullets and try a round of silhouettes along side the rifle shooters out to 500m.

Dave JenkinsSpeaking of potential facial damage....how are you and that uncompensated OTT .444 getting along Mike? Still thinking about shooting 300grain pills.?....somehow I doubt it. Would like to here how its working out.

Have to limit my shooting sessions to about 20 rounds to keep from my hands from filing a "protection from abuse" order against me!

It is shootin well, so far i have been able to shoot several 1.5" groups at 100. I know it will do better and and continue to "get to know it". LOL!
Think i am gonna try some of the 300+ grain cast bullets in it next.....
EDIT: It is actually MORE FUN to shoot off hand than off the bench! LOL! I have come closer to gettin wacked in the melon shootin offhand....

xphunterI always wear eye protection.
Next project scope is to put a 6.5-20 Leupold variable and see what happens. I think they are shorter than the B&L. But for now, my old trusty 3-12 LER is put put back on tonight. A dog shoot is going to take place within the next 30 days.
