25-284 in 15"?
I've been thinking about building a lightweight bolt rifle in 25-284, and been comtemplating various contender chamberings when I realized I might simply be better off going with the encore and not being limited with the contenders pressure limitations. When started thinking of various chamberings, I realized the 25-284 might be a steller performer even with the short tube.

I know folks are pushing 100's 3300 fps with their rifles, is it feasible to get 100's @ 3000 fps from a 15" encore? I suppose I could just go with a 25-06, but if I get the dies, brass and reamer to make the 25-284, it seems like a no-brainer to just make a matching pistol.

Paul,

This might be "apples to oranges", but my 15" Encore in 6.5-284 gets 129 gr. moving at 2700-2800 fps, so I think it's certainly possible.

I just read some posts on 25-284 loads in a 26" barrel - they all averaged 3400-3500, so the loss to a 15" barrel should still put you in the 3000 range.

Paul,
I would go for it. You should make your goal or at least very close to it.

I would be interested in some load onfo on the 6.5x284 as I just aquired a 26 inch encore barrel. Got some bullets and dies comong from Midway and need something to start with. I am looking at 6.5-06 data as a comparison as the case capacities are similar. I could also work of 30x284 or 25x284 as I have a little reference material on those two rounds around here somewhere.

Thanks
