.358 Whisper... well sorta....
Okay, here's my latest brainstorm:

Take my 10" Contender 357max barrel and load some 225 or 250 gr spitzers for it. Wouldn't that be flirting with subsonic velocities? A 357 "Whisper" if you will? Am I reinventing the wheel? Might even be more fun with a carbine barrel.

Anyone do/try this? Any luck?

Heck, you can try it though I'm wondering if you would need a faster twist rate than 1-14" with heavier bullets (250's) and sub-sonic velocities.

May be worth some trials.

Regards

Yea, I was wondering about that... Are you sure that is what the twist rate is on those factory barrels?

Twist rates:

Essentially, you are talking about a modern version of the 38 Ballard Extra Long cartridge in ballistics and lighter loads fired in the 357 Max. Although the Ballard cartridge used a 150 gr. bullet at about 1100 FPS according to COTW. It might be fun to play around on that end also with Unique powder or the equivalent.

This is really a very versatile cartridge if people wanted to experiment further with it.
