They are gonna be rough turned blanks in the caliber of your choice, no chamber. OTT will make ya a Encore barrel from one. [Wink]

I always wanted to make a big bore black powder rifle that fired a patched golf ball.... don't think I can adapt that to a T/C frame. [Frown]

Well I just got the word from Penny at PacNor. This is what she had to say>>>

Our standard blanks are made out of 1.25 stock, 28" long. Biggest shank diameter we can get, after center turning, is usually 1.235.
If you want exactly 1.25, we go to 1" 3/8th stock and there is an additional charge of $15.00 per bbl. CM Matchgrade standard blank, unpolished: $$175.00 Discounts are given for same-day, quantity orders, mix or match: 1-4: net, 5-10: 10%; 11-15: 15%; 16+: 20%.
Thank you for your interest: Penny for PAC-NOR

So for a 28" blank your still lookin at around $150. or so each, plus shipping for a dozen blanks.
Might just be me but I think that is still kinda high for a 28" barrel. If you add the $175. to finish it out to Contender or Encore that's $325. plus shipping from OTT,LLC.
I was looking at staying around the $250. mark. And that would be around 75 bucks a blank.
I'm planing on doing a 20" barrel and that 28" would leave 8" of waste. I try some other makers and see what happens.

Jules, try Lilja. I think they give some kind of discount if you order so many per year or somthing to that effect.

Jules do you need a larger diameter than 1.25"? I think the $170 price is for polished barrels (no contour? maybe not). If you want it unpolished subtract $15. It doesn't sound like it'll make much of a difference.

My barrel last week cost $155 plus shipping. That was for a straight taper #7- 28" long.

Jules,
Just for comparison, here are the prices as copied from the Shilen web site:
"Rifle Barrels

Chrome-moly Match Grade
Unturned...$142
Turned...$177
Extra for #1...$20
Extra for .17 cal...$25
Extra for 30"...$20
Extra for hand lapping...$40

Stainless Steel Match Grade
Unturned...$239
Turned...$274
Extra for #1...$20
Extra for #10...$40
Extra for .17 cal...$25
Extra for 30"...$20
Extra for 32"...$40

Stainless Steel Select Match Grade
Unturned...$294
Turned...$329
Extra for #10...$40
Extra for 30"...$20
Extra for 32"...$40"

Two questions and three comments"
1/2. What type of finish are these barrels and are they already turned? (at least w/ Shilen--see above--stainless steel is considerably more expensive [Eek!] and turned barrels more expensive, still).
3. Match grade barrels are also considerably more expensive.
4. If you decide to cut that 28" barrel in half to make a 14" Contender barrel, you'll be down to $75/barrel. [Wink]
4. I'm also interested in possibly getting in on this, as well. [Big Grin]
Thanks for doing the research.

Jules,

Can we get these blanks in any cal. and twist rate that we want? I'm looking for a .30 cal. with a 1:8 twist.

Thanks

Just got the reply from Doug at Shilen. Looks like a 28" unturned Chrome moly steel barrel will be $142. plus shipping. FFL holders get a 20% discount and i'm not one of them [Roll Eyes] That would be $111. and some change for an FFL holder.
But we are getting better.
BTW, 30" barrels are 20 bucks more.

You may also consider a Lothar Walters barrel. They have a good reputation on this forum.

Jules,

Jules,

You may want to check on getting the 30" blanks or talk with Mike S or ever who is going to do the work. I had a 28" blank that was almost 29". I tried to get one of the custom shops to do me up two 14" barrels but they said it would have to be a 14" and 12". Not sure if they just didn't really want to do the work or if you do need the extra inches for excess.

No replys from the others yet. Maybe they just don't wanna deal wit me. Hart is out for sure. They are top of the line but just to darn much for me. I'm working on Douglas. We may just have to stay with the Les Bauska barrels. As soon as I get my 223imp bbl back out i'll let ya'll no something. These are only 50 bucks plus shipping.
