newtootThanks for reply, seriously! I'm wanting to sell so I can buy something else, possibly a Savage striker or Encore. Believe you have replied to some of my previous posts concerning my difficulty
in shooting my SSK .309 barrel which is magnaported rather than braked, completely my fault as I bought the barrel new and could have ordered it with a brake for only very slightly more but was impatient to get the barrel, a big mistake an OF like me shouldn't make. Ray

Bobby TomekRay-
We could give you a more precise figure if you provided more information, including the exact type of scopes. Simply stating "Bushnell" won't do it. There's a large price range here, from a simple 2x to the Elite 2-6x. Also, more specifics on condition would be required.

newtootThe Weaver scope is a 2.5 to 8 scope, the Bushnell is a 2 to 6 scope, All equipment is in excellent shape. Also a "chest holster" for Contenders and a hard case would be included in
the package. I am also not aware of the policies on selling something here on this forum, most forbid it. Thanks again Ray

Bobby TomekRay-
While this is not an offer, $1250 would sound about right.
And don't worry: on this forum, you won't get 30 lashes or be banned for listing something for sale. That only happens at the pond...

HobieActually, I did respond but not to help.
Seriously, you don't
need to brake the barrel but of course you can. It seems to me that you're afraid of the gun. No need just practice. You'll get over it and Magnaporting will be lots quieter and easier on your ears than a "brake".
I bet you're saying to yourself, "Oh yeah, that Hobie knows it all. What a butt!"
Well, I've been there. When that .45-70 barrel of mine first went off I thought I shoulda brought my passport for that ride! The same thing happened to me when I first shot the 90mm recoilless rifle and the DRAGON. Big noises make one flinch instinctively. Only familiarization eliminates that. That means practice.
Since I've now taken the time to read that you can shoot the .22, I'd just go with the .309 light loads and work up. If you're worried about fouling that Magnaport job with cast bullets, then shoot jacketed. The investment in 3 boxes or so of Hornady 150s is hardly anything compared to that rig you have.
Again, good shooting!

newtootSure appreciate the answers to this post.Very helpful. I have all ready tried and applied many of the shooting hints. I have the Pachmyr grips, have had them almost since I bought the first barrel. I have also practiced with the .22lr barrel and shoot 2 in gps at 100 yds consistently, with no wind and using match ammo.
That's why i believe the recoil is making it hard to shoot and it's not all me. I've shot and owned several guns including a 45/70 Contender barrel with brakes and they make a tremendous difference. I am under impressed with magnaporting although I'm sure it does help some. I really haven't had time to properly sight in the 45/70 barrel with a brake so can't really say how I will shoot it but I do know this for dead sure, it kicks considerably LESS than my .309 with both handloads and factory rounds. When I shoot off of a rest, almost all of the time I shoot off some kind of a rest, I do make sure that the bottom of the grip does not contact anything, I do not overgrip but let the gun recoil as it may. I am retired but sure do wonder where I used to find time for work, it's hard to find time to shoot but I'm going to make more time for that. Thanks again Ray
