I am just getting into shooting and loading my contender. The question i have is how do you guys carry yours afield? Mine is a 10" and I don't really like the big holsters.

super sling- 1" camo. sling studs in the grip, and forearm.

Either a sling like KYODE or a Thompson Bandolier holster across my chest

In my hand. Or I carry it like a baby in the crook of my left arm/elbow, like you would a shotgun. The gun does me no good slung or in a holster. If I need free hands to drag a deer I put it in my pack.

I've tried shoulder holsters and now just use a sling. I use the grip bolt with a swivel stud and a barrel band.

I got a Contender for the carbine barrel configuration. Thought I'd have a go at the pistol barrels. Tried several holsters but no joy for me in that regard. Either they were uncomfortable, didn't fit the gun, were inconvenient when coming upon game... So, used to having my gun in my hands when hunting, I switched to the sling method. Well heck, unless unloaded it was actually more worrisome to carry than the carbine configuration. At least then you always know where the barrel is pointed and it doesn't switch directions on you at inopportune times. Now, I'm back to the carbines.

Now maybe I'm just clutzy, but I don't think so. I've been handling firearms since I was six, and carried and trained others to carry firearms in the field for 27� years. I prefer to still hunt and am only on stand for a couple of hours at each end of the day (and for lunch ) so maybe that affects my perception. Strangely, I don't feel that way when using my M629 and a holster... Maybe the Contender is just one of those things with which you have to deal in a special way.

My method of carrying depends on what I'm hunting. When I'm hunting varmints, I usually just carry it in my had. When I'm predator hunting or hunting coons, I carry it in a big belt holster unloaded, until I'm ready to set up and shoot. I've even carried it in my backpack a few times. I'm thinking of switching to a shoulder holster though. A Contender really is too big for belt carry.

My setup is differant for each type of game I hunt. Holsters, belt or shoulder and slings work well for some not so well for me. Eastern Deer hunting moderate to heavy cover. I went down to the local Fast Food joint asked for one of their empty 5 gal. buckets ( pickles came in mine color Kelly green ) wash and spray paint camo. Duluth Trading Com. sells a Bucket Seat and a shoulder strap to fit buckets. Inside I made a cradle to hold my Contender setup for deer. Extra space filled with whatever I think I need, Food, water, map, ect., ect. I drive to area, get out shoulder my bucket , go to my spot, take out Contender sit on bucket and wait. Super 14 with scope will fit.
