T/C NutWhat would be the best .338 Caliber in an Encore..
I'm looking at getting a .338 of some sort. I was thinking of a 338Win Mag or 338-06 I'm not keen on muzzle-breaks tho. So help me out please!!!

xphunterHow about the 338-06 Improved? I would go that way or the 338 WM.

DesertRamI don't know much about it, but have you considered a .338-08? Might be just the ticket for the shorter handgun barrels with less recoil and muzzle blast than the larger .338 cartridges. I have been thinking of one in a rifle for my wife to complement her .257 Roberts, but am still leaning towards the .358 Win. Speaking of the .358, what about that instead of a .338 bore?

KYODEi'm thinking i would like a .338 also. the bullet selection is one advantage i see over a .358 bore.
i'd like to know how close a .338/.308 would come to a .338winmag's velocity in a handgun.
what about a .338/.284win?

xphunterAbout the same difference you would see in a rifle comparison. My uneducated guess is about 250 fps. I used to have a 338 WM from Bullberry about 6 years ago. I sent the data with the barrel, so I can't give you numbers.

Sean VHA #60013Maybe not the easiest or the cheapest, but the most interesting [to me] would be the 338 Lapua
338 Lapua Magnum
