Match Grade Machine (www.matchgrademachine.com) currently has not one but 2 24" Contender rifle barrels in 6.5x30-30 AI in their existing inventory. That means you can have it in a couple of days instead of any conventional waiting period for a custom item.

It's essentially the 6.5 Bullberry IMP if you wanted to go that route with dies.

I have no ties to the company but wanted to share this info. I've had three of their barrels now, including a 26" in 6.5 Bullberry IMP, and the quality has been nothing short of terrific.

Either of those barrels could be cut to any length you like short of 24". Thanks for the tip....Rusty

Twist?

Both of those barrels are 1:9.

Mine is a 1:8. I requested that twist as I was primariliy interested in shooting the rather long, streamlined 140s such as the A-Max. My 1:9s do fine with conventional 140s and anything down to 85 grains.

But the 1:8 does 0.5 MOA or better with the stubby 85 grainers as well as the ballistically-efficient 140 grainers.

I've always been a disciple in the theory that, within reason, you can't overstablize a bullet but that you can certainly understabilize one.

bobby...Look at it this way, in some form or another I currently have a
5mm (.204) and a 5.5 mm (.221) and a 6mm and a 7mm

it would only make good sense to fill in that 6.5 caliber with something cool.

Can you post back a nominal case length for your 6.5 BB Imp. ?

Bobby Tomek
What I consider max length is 1.9805.

And once your brass is formed, it grows very, very slowly as the lack of taper and relatively steep shoulder give optimum performance in the chamber. To minimize working of the brass, I start with 6.5 BRM from www.eabco.com. That brass is much closer to the specs of the 6.5 BB Imp chamber than a 30-30 case that's been necked down. Thus, the brass is worked less under pressure and will generally last much longer before giving up the ghost.
