BigBrassYour scope recommendations: 1.5-4x or 2-7x?
For hunting with a Thompson Center Encore pistol in 30-06, which would you recommend - a 1.5-4x scope or a 2-7x scope? (One hopes not to have to take 250-300 yard shots on game; but it would be nice to have the capability to do that. Would a 4x magnification be sufficient? Are there significant disadvantages to going to the 2-7 power scope?)

PiebaldSince it's going on a 30/06 put a 2x7 on it. When hunting I always keep it on 2X for the best FOV. I have a 1.5x4 on a Max and a 450Marlin. I really like this scope but it just doesn't get the job done when shooting @ 200+ yards, thats why it's on the straight walled cartridges. I got a 2x7 on 2 of my barrels and have had good success when hunting with this scope.

44magnumI agree with the other fellas: A 2x7 should be a nice scope for your barrel. I am also partial to Burris scopes, with ball plex for hunting rigs. Love that ball plex reticle!!

Gary TBB,
I also vote for the 2-7X.

I have a large number of Burris 2-7X scopes and have found them very useful. I'm particularly fond of generous fov at 2X. In all actuality, a LOT of hunting can be done with a 4X scope. Nevetheless, it's very comforting, and at times very useful, to have the 7X magnification avialable. I have one of the 1-4X scopes and none of the 4X scopes.

Don't have any experience w/ the ballistic plex. Thus far, all my scopes have the regular plex reticle. Gary T.

SlimLAs always I prefer the Leupolds. I like the consistent eye relief. Customer support is excellent. 2.5-8 is what I have on mine. Slim
