Paul HPondering...
The mention of using a 30 mauser sizer in the 22 DLH thread got me to thinking. Could the 30 mauser die be used with a 38 sp / 357 mag to make a modern rook rifle round? We don't have a single shot rifle forum, and some of the most creative wildcatters post here.
How long of a case? The 30-357 is supposed to be a great little setup in lever guns/

<Headstamp>Paul,
The 30 Mauser die is a bit bigger in diameter than a 38/357 case in the body. I use it for first pass forming when I was playing around with the 221 rimmed and making regular 221 cases from 223/222, etc.
You would probably need a die that matched the case dimensions better for the final sizing for proper chambering.
For first pass forming, you can get away with using the Mauser die bacause the 38/357 case centers itself when it hits the shoulder area of the Mauser die. Then on into a 256 trim die which fits the whole case better.
You MAY be able to get away with something like using the 30 Mauser die for neck sizing and a shoulder bump and using a 357/38 carbide sizer die to size the body of the case.
Regards
