6tcu - help!
my fireform loads were really great in accuracy and velocity with 80gr bullets and h335. now that i'm in formed cases, i can't get nothing below 1 1/2" groups at 100. i will not settle for more than 1". i've set the shoulder back as needed, adjusted seating depth, and powder charges. any ideas? anyone have a favorite 70gr bullet load, as i may switch to that weight. since it shot so good with forming loads, i figured accuracy would continue, evidently not!(yet anyway)
i've cleaned the barrel good, etc. it's giving me fits! [Frown]

You got a PM. Try the 70 grain bullets first.

right back at you. i have my forearm shimmed off the barrel with 3m tape [Roll Eyes] maybe thats the problem [Confused] i'll have to go back to my other methods.

My 6TCU just loves H-322 and 65gr Burgers. I've tryed the 65 V-Max and no matter what the load it only gives about 1 1/2" groups at the best with the V-Max. I've never tryed any other bullets because it shoots the Bergers so well and I only use it for Chucks.

Up your powder charge from the fireforming load by .5 gr. You have greater capacity and so you've changed the harmonics slightly... It might not be true but has worked for me. Done so the other way around, too.

yep, i've already upped the charge from 26.5gr h335/80gr sierra(form load) to 28.0gr h335/80gr sierra(formed case). i also tried 28.5gr h335 and primers cratered slightly. next will be to try imr4198 and 70gr sierra blitzkings. i have enough deer guns and loads anyway.
i'm betting on my forend floating method . keeping my fingers crossed, and i'll try her again. [Roll Eyes]

I had very good results with imr 4198 and 70 grain speer tnt bullets. also take a look at how far you can seat this bullet out since it is not a boattail bullet. I'm not sure if a longer oal may be what contributes to the excellent accuracy or not. but you can certanly get this bullet a lot farther out or the case. if your barrel is like mine it has a very long throat.

yep, it's a very long throat(factory super 14"), i suppose for 100gr bullets [Roll Eyes] it did teach me a few things. 1) you don't have to be close to the lands to get accuracy. 2) accuracy comes and goes as you seat the bullet at different depths. kinnda like changing powders or bullets, the accuracy changes at different depths. .010" difference in depth can turn a inaccurate load to a accurate one. may do a test run tomorrow. i'll see if the forearm bedding was a contributor.

I have not found the 80 ssp to be the most accurate but the accuracy of this bullet is better for me if I use BLC-2. In my 15 in. bullberry 6tcu my best groups with the ssp are about 1 in. My most accurate combo yet is 68 gr. Starke RPVB. with 29.5 gr. BLC-2 in FED brass. I usually work loads up 1 or 2 tenths of a gr.at atime.

well, it wasn't the forearm [Frown] what causes major vertical stringing? now, both the 6br encore, and 6tcu contender are shooting terrible. does low pressure loads string vertical? [Confused] or maybe high pressure [Eek!]

trying some different powders in both guns. varget and 80gr sierra sspb does good in the 6br. i'll try imr4198 and h322 with 70gr sierra bk's in the 6tcu. we'll see!

Have you cleaned the copper out of the barrel?

yep, tried a different primer. no change in accuracy using h335.
yep, cleaned really good with shooters choice. [Big Grin]

The vertical stringing is prob being caused by inconsistant bolt lock-up. That could be caused by a headspacing problem, also would explain why the fire forming loads shoot better than the formed loads. I would try screwing your sizing die down a tad further, if the frame & bbl already locks enough to drop the safety bar - it ain't gonna take much. Make sure that you're using the same shell holder for all of this, otherwise the shoulder to base dims are going to be changing.

well, i have adjusted my size die down, and i am shoving the shoulder back till the case only protrudes from the(removed) barrel .002". she closes great, and no misfires at all. lot's of good ideas coming out fellers, keep em coming! [Big Grin] after i try the new powders, we'll see what i find out. [Roll Eyes]

pm back to you too. [Big Grin]

i really appreciate everyones help. any ideas welcome. maybe something will bump my head, and make me go " oh yeah, thats the problem" [Cool]

well, looks like imr 4198 may be the choice with 70gr sierra's in the formed case. 3 shots 1/2" at 100 [Big Grin] . i'm almost sure the stringing was probably powder related last time. h335 shot pretty good as form loads with 80gr'rs, but just couldn't get it to shoot right in formed brass, with 70's or 80's.

That's pretty darn acceptable in my book! Glad to see you got this "problem" figgured out.
