RAS 323Buckweet-257TCU results
Buckweet,
: I shot my 257 tcu using the load you gave me (27gr H4895 75gr sierra, I used rem 7.5 primers). I got right around a 0.8" group at 100 yds (good for me- I'm not the best shot). It's a little slow though, the 21" barrel gave only 2480fps. The 15" barrel with one more grain of powder gave 2473fps and 1.5" group ( could have been me). These groups are better than what I have gotten in the past with 75gr V-MAX's.
: My normal load of 30gr. W748 with 100 grain bullets give 2650fps (21" barrel) and 2500fps (15" barrel).
: Maybe I should slow down the 75grain bullets a bit from where I was, 2850fps, 15" barrel. I think the sierra's will help they're a little longer than the V-MAX's.
Thanks

RAS 323Buckweet,
I got loads. These will possibly be hot in your gun, due to my barrel's long throat. I don't usually measure c.o.a.l., I just seat to bottom of neck.
Here goes not in any particular order:
25 IMR 4198 75gr vmax @ 2886fps semi accurate in my gun.
24.5gr IMR 4198 85gr NBT @ 2725fps less than 1 M.O.A.
31gr W748 87gr Speer (2639fps) and 90gr Sierra (2603fps) less than 1 M.O.A.
30gr W748 100gr @ 2493fps (Speer, Nosler, Sierra and Hornady all about the same)
28.5gr 748or RL15 115gr Nosler BT 2400fps 0.5" or better. Shot a mule deer with this load (W748) a couple of years ago @ 197yds, worked good.
29.5gr AA2460 85gr NBT @ 2738fps 0.70"
29gr AA2460 85gr Barnes X 2667fps 1.0" (half a grain more gave 2818fps (too much)slightly under 1.0").
28gr AA2460 100gr bullets very accurate,I haven't chronographed it yet.
25.5gr RL7 75gr VMax @ 2939 (21" barrel) Semi Accurate-- I'll be trying this load and the 25gr IMR 4198 again with the 75gr Sierra's and Barnes X.
If I draw an antelope tag this year in Wyoming,I think I'll be using the 85gr X.
Everything here is from my 15" barrel. I get very similar results with the 21" barrel but 100-150fps faster.
Soon as I get RL 10, I'll be trying all of this again. Of course now I have a pound of H4895 to use too. I think it'll work well with 100gr and up.
I used two five shot strings for the average velocity and my groups are five shots. I used only winchester brass and CCI 450 primers.

<trcuda>Ok guys,
Here is another load for you to try. I am using 26.5 gr. of AA 2230C with 75 gr. Hornady HPs in RP brass set off by Rem 7 1/2 primers. No idea of the velocity as I have never bothered to chrony them but they are the combination is my most accurate TC bbl shooting into 1/2" regularly with occasional ventures into the 1/4" range.
