kickedby444Just (WHEN) does barrel collecting stop ?
Collecting contender barrels has to be the most addicting habbit I have, I think I could stop smoking first! You know if I did I could buy more
barrels
Does this ever go away or should I join a support
group? I try to tell myself that each barrel has it's use,but I'm not sure thats true.
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME.I THINK I'M GOING CONTENDER CRAZY
I think this might be the wrong place to ask this question.

bchan7This is definitely the wrong place to ask this.
One solution is to send all your barrels to one of the many members and maybe that will cure them, but you will end up replacing them anyway...
Good luck with this INCURABLE disease...
19 July 2003, 02:24
Rich JakeJim There is no cure. The only thing you can is keep on collecting them. Whatever you do don't start into encores. That only makes the disease worse!

[ 07-18-2003, 19:27: Message edited by: Paul Dustin ]As long as your still shooting them (some of them) your ok.
I haven't fired more than a half dozen rounds in my contenders in almost a year. I have no iterest in buying barrels.
I'm really not shooting at all... but that hasn't stopped me from buying guns. It seems the less I shoot, the more guns I buy. One good thing is that buying barrels and not shooting them is too boring to be too costly.

Paul HWhen you go on to other hobbies, or find that you don't use your contender much anymore. I went through nearly a dozen barrles, then ended up selling the last barrel, and trading off my frame. I'm sure I'll get another frame, or try out the encore in the future, but for now, I'm having more fun shooting revolvers.

Jim, just sitting here thinking of what the definition of "collecting" is. I would say a "collector" would be more to look at, rather than a shooter? With that said, I am in DEEP S---! I have three barrels in the safe that are new in the box and have never even been mounted on a frame! And those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head
![[Roll Eyes]](images/icons/rolleyes.gif)
. To top that off got this new one from mbm coming also.
GOSH all I can say is, it is cheaper than racing. Any money that I have put out towards this I have usually done no worse than break even.
As far as quit smoking, yeah it would probably help the $$ situation. But if ya are like me, and quit cussing, the tobbacco habit and looking at the girls we would be so close to perfect we couldn't stand our selves
![[Razz]](images/icons/tongue.gif)
.
So I would say carry on.
BTW, NEVER and I say NEVER pass up a good deal, even if ya already have one of that flavor

T/C Nut WHAT WHEN DOES IS STOP!!!!!! I have not bought a barrel since Wednesday. Does that count as stopping?

Mike
I guess it would depend on what you call a collection. I have the desire to own one ea. ACCURATE 14" bbls in all calibers based on the 30-30 case.
I have had a total of 20 bbls and have 3 in the collection. I have 3 frames and have only spent about $500.00 so far, not to bad.
Buying and selling the other bbls is just fun and part of the hobby. I keep 6-7 bbls at any one time apart from the collection because I like to shoot diffrent calibers also. They don't stay around long and not considered part of the 'collection' just fodder so if a good one comes up I have something to offer.
If your just buying bbls to have bbls then your hopeless and can never be cured. Apply for some more credit cards and stick around your in the right place

tommynSmiled when I started reading this thread. I have done a lot of selling, trading and buying to get a few really good barrels and told my self thats all I want or needed. Right, saw a good deal on a barrel blank and away I go again. Bid on the blank and sent my favorite contender artist an email and maybe away we go again. Now start saving money for all the goodies to go with it. Goodies cost as much as barrels. Life is good.
honestly, the only thing that has slowed me down is some problems with my eye sight. now i can only get carbine length barrels...

Bobby TomekSteve-
Funny you should mention that. I've been shooting the carbine barrels much more lately. I still shoot with and hunt with pistols, but eye fatigue has been much more of a factor lately with the pistols and LER scopes. Any lengthy bench sessions as of late are more than likely with carbine/rifle-length setups instead of my favored pistols.
This topic comes up now and again. Usually the subject is revived by somebody whose wife told him he was sick. I can't believe that if you're truly addicted you would realize it on your own.
I started out in 1978 or so wanting one of those neat little Contender frames with a carbine barrel(s) in .22 LR, .30-30, and .223 Rem. Well... I've got those and 18 others. Unlike others, I've got only a couple of the shorter barrels, all others are 16" or longer. Most barrels have their own scopes, several have their own forearms and I've only got 2 frames. I've even got a 28 gauge shotgun barrel.
Do I shoot them, well, I do now. Since I retired it became possible to do so, time wise. In fact I've only got to work up loads for 5 (or is it 6) more...

Carbine barrels are excellent. I have a 7TCU from VVCG that has been outstanding & fun to shoot. Give it a try.
Rich Jake
After serious research, I've come to understand that like bi-focals, carbine barrels come right around 40. I hit 40 in November. At this rate, but the time I'm 60, the barrels will be somewhere around 12' long...

Well Steve you must be right, I just turned 40 in June. Thanks for the warning,I better make my bench longer to handle the 12' barrels ![[Big Grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)
