JulesAnyone carry 2 single shot guns
while there hunting?
I plan to carry a Contender carbine in either 358x444, 308Bellm or 250imp. with a contender handgun in either 30-30win, 44mag or 444Marlin.
I have always carried a S&W 629 classic with a 5" barrel as a side arm, but this year i'm going to change to all single shots.
Most of my hunting will be whitetail but I plan on black bear and hog also.

Greg KWhen I first decided to try hunting deer with a handgun I hedged my bets by carrying a scoped TC 10" 44 Mag in a shoulder holster and continued to carry my 30/06 rifle. My plan was to take a deer with a handgun if in range, if not, use the rifle. Well, I had a buck walk right up to my stand and I didn't dare spook him by trying to get the TC out of the holster so I shot him with the rifle. A 10 yd shot! So much for plans.
After that, I brought just the TC and a snub nosed "signal gun" in 22 Mag. Used the 22 to let my hunting buddy know when it was time to help drag my deer out.
Now I carry only one gun in the woods, since I'm hunting alone. I do keep a second in my vehicle in case of a problem with my primary weapon.

<law9933>4-wheeling around farm for varmints. A Contender Supe 14 .223 in holster or maybe a 10" 22 K Hornet and a H&R bull 24" 223 in case mount. one shot-one kill.

I would also carry a Sig Sauer P225 on the strong side under my coat "just in case".....LOL! Shoulda seen the ammo bag i had to carry!

Sean VHA #60013Jules,
Mostly I will be hunting whitetail and carrying the 8" 44mag Bellm barrel w/Brake, with either a Taurus 425 Tracker 4" 41mag or a S&W 66 357mag 3" as backup. Maybe even a 629 Mountain Gun
Hey, maybe I am a T/C Heretic as well?

I will be hunting with my T/C Encore 15" 308 with Push/Pull grip, Warne QR mount with SS Aimpoint and Leupold 2.5x8 as alternate/backup sight. Of course I will be carrying my trusty T/C 357 Herrett 14" also with Push/Pull grip and Tasco Pro-Point.
Last year I tied my Encore to my rope to lower it from my tree stand and the rope broke when I held it over the side of the stand to lower it to the ground (groan). I had the Leupold scope on it and was afraid I may have damaged it, but all I had to do was sight it in later. In the mean-time I used the 357 Herrett with the Pro-Point to drop a buck on the move at 80 yards in thick timber. I would have been up the creek without a backup weapon. I also will have a 6.5 JDJ 24" carbine back at the camp along with my 26" 30 Gibbs Encore with a Leupold QR mount with a Leupold VXIII 2.5x8 and a Tasco/Titan 1.5x6, (no paranoia here)
This weekend I will be building a new tree stand. I am using 4x4's screwed to trees with 1/2"x10" lag screws to support a platform of 8' 2x10's. I have been deer hunting longer than I care to think about, but I think I get more excited each year!

AlpoFor rabbit hunting with beagles, I always take my 10" Contender 45/410 along with a short 22" barreled 12 gauge NEF loaded with Blackpowder loads.
Big game hunting? Well, this year I have my new Encore rifle in 7mm-08. I'll probably pair it up with my Contender in either 10" 45/410 or 10" 44 mag.

<xp100hunter>I always have two handguns with me while hunting big game. Accidents can happen and things break when you least expect it. I try to be prepared for the worst. I don't carry both with me on my person though. I don't usually hunt alone, especially in the mountains. My other hunting buddies carry specialty pistols too. They are my spare while in the field in the mountains.

<stinkeypete>For deer, Savage MLII muzzleloader also with T/C (has been .357 max, may switch to .45 colt this year.) Hard to say which is the backup, but no doubt it's two single shots.
Also, I may go FA .454 iron sights with scoped .357 Max for long range option. This would be an easy hiking load to tote.
Bunny busting, if I take the t/c .410 I also take my O/U shotgun, because eventually I get tired of missing the bouncing bunny.

I have a few times, where I "wanted to see" or wanted to try out a cartridge. Like last year I went to sit watch on big open field. Brought my 16" .309JDJ set up for the 150-300 yard hopes.. and the 11" 300 whisper for the 150 and under.... just for the heck of it. Also had a revolver ready for side and behind me shots.
I always have 2 handguns, often 3. 4 is the max so far... but maybe i'll take five along one time this year just to set a new mark.

Allen GloreI have carried a T/C Contender and a Lone Eagle on the same hunting trips. Contender in 430 JDJ and the Lone Eagle in 358 Win. Would carry one or the other every other day. Added a little bit of a change from day to day while on a hunting trip because you had to think differently about what tactic you were going to use when you came across game.
