Van Horns matte finish
I talked to Dave today about his matte finish. He uses fine glass beads to blast his barrels not sand. This is why such a smooth finish. This is his version of matte and I accept it with a
It's still a first rate looking barrel and if it shoots that good i'll be happy.
BTW, I didn't really paint it.

<Headstamp>Jules,
That reminds me of MagnaPort's "Velvet Hone" finish. Very finely glass beaded and looks like dynamite on a S/S gun also.
Have Fun
Bulldog, For some reason his site is down.

I have seen that finish Ray. It was on a S&W L frame in 357mag with an 8 3/8" barrel at a gunshow, Had a TSOB on it and was ported also. The guy wanted $450 for it at the time.

<wildcat51>Talked with Van Horn briefly last Friday. I called to talk about the standard 5.6x50R cartridge, which is on the chamber list(when the site was up). He added that in about two weeks he will receive reamers for various (5.6)x50R improved chambers in all your favorite calibers

<marrfam>At least you did not have to send it back becuase it was not drilled and tapped the way you wanted. Plus it did not fit the frame. the pin hole was too far forward so once I did manage to get it on it would not close and lock up.

<metalic matt>Hello All
I'm new here and getting back into hunting and shooting.
I have the fortune of living 3 miles from Mr. Van Horns House and workplace. After listening to this site I decided to go down and talk to him. He is quite a gentleman and down to earth.
He was nice enough to make a barrel for my t.c. in 223 24" straight bull. I will be going to dog town in september.
It took a week, it was nice that he pulled the blank out of stock and started that day I talked to him.
For the money on t.c. equipment you can't go wrong.
I will be going down to his shop while on bicycle rides

to order new barrels in the future. I feel very lucky.
Without working up for powder type it is shooting <1" after a lengthy breakin.100 rounds of shoot and clean
Anyway I'll be perusing this thread often if you would like me to go over their with some questions!
born again contender, and maybe encore!guy
Matt
P.s. he is marketing a solvent he recomends for break-in and powder removal. Powder residue is the enemy!
