May the best gun win..Part 1
Not talking about carrying, hunting, or caliber. Just tell your favorite. And feel free to start another poll if your favorite isn't listed to see how it measures up.Which do you prefer overall?Smith and WessonRuger

Well, I didn't vote because it depends on the action type. For single action, I prefer the Ruger. For double action, the Smith gets the nod.

Problem--
what the intended design function matters.

Forgetting that--
Smith & Wesson for collectors value.

Ruger for consumer (price) value.

Owning several of both brands;
by function are better than others for their intended purpose; sometimes Ruger other times S&W and vice versa.

i had a new security six 357 with a cracked forcing cone
i also had a new smith 586 357 tha tmissed the heat process on frame or that what i was told after the bbl blew off in mud, ripped rite out of the threads, using factory smith ammo
ruger replaced the bbl
smith replaced the gun
smith has more models i like
i tend to favor smith

Both Rugers I own, a SP 101 and a Super Redhawk, needed the actions gone over by a smith to smooth them. I own four S&W's and have never touched a thing on any of them.

I own both and love them both. That said, I lean towards Ruger as has been pointed out above, the Rugers are tougher. Yes, the Smith has a smoother action, but the Ruger can be slicked up nicely.

Favorite calibers? Depends on what I am doing. For hunting I like the .475 and .500 Linebaughs, as well as the .500 JRH.
