With NICS system, why can't a citizen buy a handgun in

any state in the Union?

After all, if it is truly a National Instant Check System and I'm on vacation in Texas and find a smoking deal on an old S&W, why do I have to have it shipped home via FFL?

Maybe NRA should look into this and get the regulations/laws relaxed.

Some states have their own background check system and are not willing to cede that control to the Feds.

I prefer that the Federal government have LESS to do with my firearms.

There is actually a bill before the house to repeal this exactly for the reason you stated.

I'm sure Prince Harry would hold it up in the Senate, and Oobie would veto it....
