Which 1911 to buy under 1500.00? What is your recommendation of all the different makes? There are so many to choose from nowdays...does colt really make the best or can i get into a "as good or better" one from say kimber or Springfield Armory/others? After 100 yrs. seems modern makers would have the design figured out by now....

If you are going to carry it, the Dan Wesson CCO is a great gun.
I ordered a Wilson Ultra Light Carry Compact as a retirement gift to myself for retirement LEO carry.
The Officer sized frame with a Commander size slide is a great concealed carry combo.
The Wesson CCO is in your price range and has a lot of good press and would be the one I would have bought if I didn't splurge a bit on the Wilson.

I have about a dozen 1911s and my preference would be Colt and then Springfield. I like the looks of the Ruger but I haven't seen one in person yet. If you are going to carry it, I like the Colt Commander and the Springfield Lwt. Loaded Gov't model.

What do you guys think of the Colt rail gun? What kind of accuracy should be expected... 2"-3" at 25yrds.... from a Colt Government 5" or the commander out of the box?Anyone tried the smaller "Agent" model?

For the money you can not beat the Springfield "Loaded". has it all plus some for $900.00. it is also a good base gun if you are going to get really custom with it because it already has about 3/4 of the stuff anyone would do to it. i have 4 and love them. Colt is a great pistol but you are going to spend a lot more to get it up to where the Spr. Loaded is. I heard both Larry Vickers and Hilton Yam say the same.

We have two . . . Loaded and Mil Spec. One like it ought to be made, one like they make them for the military (only with some subtle improvements like beveled mag well, lowered ejection port).

For around $1500, it is possible to find a Wilson Combat CQB, and in my opinion, Wilson, Baer, Nighthawk, and Brown make the "Cadillacs" of the 1911 market. I own three and know more about Wilsons, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a gun from any of the other makers too.

I only have about half a dozen. All Colts, except for the Para-ordnance double stack and the Springfield MilSpec which looks pretty spiffy in the aluma-grips.
The lightweight commander is keeping the rosewood grips for now. Or whatever hell kind of wood they are.
I never spent more than a grand on them, though. Altogether.

I just picked up a S&W with the scandium frame. Full sized and about 8 ounces lighter than the all steel guns. Very accurate and reliable.

I"ve had my TRP for 5 years and about 5000 rounds. NEVER a failure of any kind. I resently got a Champion LW Operator and it's a great shooter also.

You might want to check out the Titan models (3 inch barrels) from ATI. I have one in stainless for my daily carry and absolutely love it. It has been completely reliable with about 3 thousand rounds through it so far. I did have to adjust the extractor/ejector as it would hit me in the top of the head sometimes with some of the empties.
