How important is the action type of the pistol when you guys decide to purchase one for CCW or home defense purposes? Is it one of the most important factor in your decision or a minor one?Why do you prefer one over the other?DA/SASADAOI don't care. I buy what feels right

You forgot to mention "safe action" or whatever Glock and S&W call their trigger. I love it. I voted in the other category!

Pretty important. Why would I waste time and effort searching for a semi-auto chambered in 45 Colt or a revolver chambered in 380ACP?

I vote for the Glock type action where the striker spring is partially compressed by the slide cycling and the job is completed with a reasonable trigger pull. For SD, I like every shot to be the same.

I tried the DA/SA on my son's Beretta. Nice gun, but just couldn't get over the heavy pull on the first shot,then a light crisp pull on the remainder.

The 'squeeze cocker ' HK P7 is the best of all ! If it wasn't for that I'd just use a SA Browning or 1911.

I know this is an unpopular view but I cannot stand the Glocks or those who mimic their "safe" triggers. For me it is a 1911 style, period, or if not purely for concealed carry, a CZ75, as a second choice.

Me too BILL. You're not alone. 1911 all the way. I don't usually use a backup, but if so it's a Mustang Pocketlite 380 (SAO).

My decision was based on the wife. She doesn't do slides. For a while we carried the model revolver, in the same caliber. When I carry a semi its hammer down double action. I like 1911's, I know JMB made it for cocked and locked, just not my favorite I will once in a while though. I don't like Glocks, just not comfortable to me. My next pistol should be a ParaOrd 7.45.

Can't stand the Glock triggers. They feel spongy. The XD is the same sort of concept only the striker is fully cocked in the action. The linkage is steel and feels positive.

I like the Kahr trigger. DAO, smooth, clean. The trigger is broad and comfortable. I like the Uzi Baby Eagle (Jericho) -- Double/Single.

A couple of 1911's -- Springfield. I carry them in the field with a hammer strap on the holster.

I really like the N Frame Smith, 629 in 44 mag. 4" bbl. "In the field."

So, yeah . . . action type is a consideration. But it's like footwear. I have different styles for different uses.

ok someone has to say it so here goes. home defense is very diff from concealed carry. id 3 to 1 carry a small revolver in 38+p without a offending hammer in a dangerous spot and it would be in my pocket where it will be inside my palm the whole way ...as opposed to my house gun , of which i have two...a 1911 by the bed [ yes cocked and locked ] and the 44 mag by the front door for those times that i have to wander out into the dark after lord knows what. but yes we have four legged beasts here that will bite and be nasty at the drop of the hat.

there hows that for stirring the pot???
