butchlocinvention thought
over the last few years i've taught ccw classes to severeal hundred people. with 2 exceptions most did not want the permit to actually carry every day, but most wanted it to keep a loaded gun in the car with them.
i've been giving car carry a bit of thought (yes it hurts) lmost people keep their gun in a glove compartment, center counsel or the like. should you need a gun quick, those places are rather useless. just takes to long to access. several keep theirs tucked between the seats next to them. That's not bad, but to keep access, the but must be visible, which sort of negates the concealed part.
i've got this half of an idea to make a steel holder of sorts that would either fasten to the underside of the seat or to the floor under the seat. You would then take a clip on holster and clip it onto the holder. The butt of the gun would then be very accessible for either hand, just by reaching between you lower legs (yes just the lower part) yet it could be totally concealed. plus if you want to take the gun with you, the holster and all would just come loose and be replaced in the holder when you get back.
Does this seem like a good idea to invent something for??

K EvansGood idea, but you are a bit late...several companies make similar items, Gum Creek comes to mind, they make a holster that fits under the steering wheel.

Not to mention all the gun-holders which fit onto the top of the sun visor(SP?) and conceal the gun between the visor and the headliner, just above the driver's eyes.

BigNateI've used pockets sewn onto the front and side of the seat cover. Very easy reach, out of sight to nearly everyone. I had a "security" gaurd search my vehicle without noticing.

GatogordoIn Texas, thanks to a new law a few years back, a person does not need a CCL to carry a handgun in his vehicle BUT it must be out of sight, which means basically in the glove box, console or some other container. Not the best arrangement, but it beats the hell out of not having one if the need arises. I dropped my CCL when this law came out but I'm regreting that decision now. I may re-take the classes.

PeterInteresting issue butchloc. I keep a full size 40 S&W in the center console of my car. The door pocket (moulded) would be quicker to access but the gun could be seen from the passenger side window, and it would be retrieved using the left hand (I am right handed). A pocket of some kind between the seat and the center console would be pretty ideal, if it could be low enough as not to be seen, but yet high enough to be easily accessible.
Peter.

Antelope SniperVelcro inside the console to hold the holster in place for quick, repeatable access.
