Renewal of Texas CHL
10 days after I renewed my Texas CHL, for the third time, it was in my hands (today). New rules allow for online renewals for CHL holders who have held their license for 3 consecutive renewal, you don't have to take a course or shoot for 10 years.

The only thing I sent them was my payment.

I knew that one didn't have to shoot but didn't realize that the course didn't have to be repeated either. Sweet! 'Cause I'm due this January.

They're dragging their feet on mine as they've had the renewal application since 8/5.

A DD-214 that said "Honorable Discharge" on it was all Idaho wanted for mine. And $35 for a four year renewal.

Rich,a DD 214 should be good for a helluva lot more than we receive.BTW,my son was wounded in the last Mesopatanian sand box debacle + refused his purple heart since his wound was not caused by a bullet.I asked him why he refused the award + he told me,"because you raised me better than that." Still gets me a bit moist at times.

YOU HAVE TO RE-TAKE THE COURSE EACH TIME YOU RENEW?

Here in WV you take a firearms safety course before applying the first time and then just send in your renewal every five years or if you change residence. Also you need to fire a weapon during the "safety" course but there's no mandatory course of fire or "qualification". Many of the people in the course don't even own a handgun and have to use one of our pistols.

I don't intend for this to start an argument, but I tend to disagree just a bit.

I can see where a person should be taken care of medically if they were actually injured while in the military. Other than that, I do not see where persons who have served in the military should be entitled to any other considerations other than thanks from those who have not served in the military.

I do not know the particulars of the Idaho CHL law, but I will hazzard a guess, that the DD 214 might meet some qualification rule they have on prior firearms training. Just a guess???

I also do not know he familiars of the Idaho gun laws;the DD 214 should have NOTHING to say about ones knowledge of the said 'laws' concerning ownership;however maybe, just maybe, there might be some implication that a member of service personal was/is qualified to handle a weapon.

Well, I have a DD214 and I freely admit that at this stage in the game I am not fully qualified to safely handle and carry a handgun weapon!!!
