I went on a goat cull at the weekend with a new member here NZVarminter.

This is just one of the valleys

Here is NZvarminter with two billies

And myself with an odd looking billy.

Two very fat goats.

And a Hare taken with 7MM MAG 115gr speer.

Wow you guys have got a ton of tucker up there.

You need some deer there to get all that growth under control. No wonder those goats are so fat. They will go well on the BBQ as kebabs if they aren't too smelly.

Haven't heard how you got on in the Greenstone last year.

we had a bit of a goat hunt at the weekend too . Couple of the lads took their muzzle loaders out for a shoot . I had my 223 as back-up and shot more than the other two combined . I guess I did have the firepower advantage tho ...

Great photos and lovely country.

Sure no drought over there.

As I am getting back into shooting, I would be grateful if you could tell me what rifles, scopes (power in partic.) and calibres you used.

By the look of the country , I have thought you would have had a million goats to shoot at; the animals in the photos are so fat that there is clearly no competition for feed.

Luckily you do not live in Australia.

You would not have a hope of building, purchasing that type of weapon here.

Like the rifle rest; do you use this in the field or is it simply a jig to assist with construction of the varmint canon?

I cannot quite make out the brand.

Would you be good enough to supply.

No dobut we would not be able to source it , like most attractive firearm related equipment,including something like your rifle given the mega punitive gun laws passed in Australia over a decade ago!!

Enjoy what you have , gun law wise, as once your gun rights go, you will never, never get them back.

Actually our California State Attorney General (AG) banned all of these type rifles on Jan 1st of 2000 but our State Supreme Court just told him that he did it wrong and until he can get it right we are allowed to purchase these again.

It's taken the AG about two months now to try to straighten it out and he still mucked it up. There is now a shortage of these type receivers (actions) all over the US because they have sold so many to Californians in the last month or so. My friends and family have 7 more on order right now (including another for me) so here's to hoping that our AG will continue to screw up!

I never thought that I would appreciate government incompetence as much as I have in the last couple of months!

The brand is Outers and is available in all the internat hunting shops here in the US. I don't know how available they are overseas.
The proper name is "Outers Varminter Rifle Rest"

Wifezilla is deciding on where we go for holiday this year. The choices are Oz or Scotland and I'm trying to get her to pick Oz. If she does I might be able to bring some small things over for people there. I'll let everyone know if I'm coming.

Robert rifles used two 243 Tikka,remington 3X-9X scope and my 7MM REMMAG 3x-9xscope.We both reload and used bullets from 55grains-100gr in 243 and i used 115-145gr in the 7mm.80gr is a good bullet weight in 243. Frank it was blooding hot out there,so the less hair the better.You will see there is no mud in the photos. Hamish greenstone trip did not happen as two guys pulled out.Yes there was heaps of feed on this station,hope to get back down there for the roar.
