My grandfather was a lieutenant in the 4th Australian Light Horse. They also fought at Gallipoli ,although without their horses & held Lone Pine on several occasions.
During the Sinai and Palestine campaign my grandfather acted as a forward scout for the 4th Light Horse & liased with Thomas Lawrence("of arabia" fame) on numerous occasions.
After serving with the 4th Light Horse, my grandfather transferred to the 11th King Edwards Own Lancers, a British Indian Army regiment based in Rawalpindi now Pakistan.
Imagine that, 95 years ago commonwealth troops were fighting in the middle east & pakistan/afganistan border.
How things change.
