Tim HeraldAussie guys - hunt question...
Hey Guys...is the first 10 days of May just too darned wet to try to hunt buff?

Matt GrahamDepends on so many things mate. Depends on how the wet season progresses but mainly depends on where you go. It is a very big risk booking those dates as there are very few places that you can reliably hunt at that time. There are only two properties that I would dare forward-booking a hunt, to do a proper buff hunt at that time. You might get lucky too and find that the wet season ends early and you could access all areas.... but I doubt that will happen.
There are several out fitter who will throw you in a helicopter and take you out to 'do one' that way, of course.... and I would be wary of anyone promising you a hunt at that time - as that would be the likely outcome, when it was ultimately found to be simply too wet.

Tim HeraldThanks Matt. I was hoping that you would chime in. This is what I was afraid of. I really want to do one of these hunts, but having Africa booked the next couple summers, it is hard for me to make this trip and Africa within a 6 week period. May would work well for me, but I don't want to heli hunt, and I don't want to take that risk with the wet season.

Matt GrahamWe have knocked back a lot of hunts for this time period, unless the hunters were OK hunting a game ranch and were prepared to ride a 4-wheeler... there are always compromises. If you want to hunt a prime area you are better-off booking it for another time, even very late season (Sept).

NitroXTim,
Some outfitters have areas that are wet season accessible.
Looking for one of them would provide higher assurance of a hunt at the beginning of May.
First time I was in the Territory in 1993 and the Wet was over by the beginning to mid of April. Still some storms. But no assurance of that ahead of time.

Code4Tim,
Contact as many operators as possible and you may be pleasantly surprised.
