Importing a rifle from NZ to Australia

Can you just go and get it with a B709 or whatever it is?

I bought one in from NZ about 10yrs ago so not relevant now, but what an expensive PIA.

I should have jumped on a plane and gone and got it.

I also had to get a cultural export clearance as it was an old H&H magazine rifle

See if you can get it before all the new laws take effect!

I just imported one myself from the USA. Landed in 8 days. Took 8 weeks due to a change in policy to get it out of customs. But once it was done it was very cheap compared to previous imports from Germany.

Not sure exactly what I need to be honest, or who best to approach. There are 3rd party importers in Australia, but I assume they charge an arm and a leg. I have been told Aussies won't be able to just purchase firearms in NZ like before, it has to be an export their end, import ours.

The project will take time to build, I'd say any new laws will be in full force by the time its done( next year).

How ridiculous is all of this. Our closest cultural neighbours, staunch war allies, almost free migration between the countries, less distance between NZ and say Tasmania and QLD, yet its going to end up like a fucking NATO arms deal to get a firearm across the water.

Yep and you can put the blame squarely on one of your countrymen for that cluster (assuming you are Aussie). That was one free migration export from Oz we could have done without.

Rubbish. The blame "squarely rests on several things" . The UN for pushing these policies in the first place, lack of a solid constitution, the small size of your country, lazy shooter representation, and the fact you had 22years to learn from Australia's mistakes, but didn't.

the biggest failure - unadmitted in public - was the NZ Police vetting system that gave the murderer has firearms licence in the first place , and secondly the New Zealand Police who chose to ignore the number of reports that the murderer was a loose cannon and needed to be looked at.
Now these same Police are writing the legislation that is strangling gun ownership in this country , yet doing nothing at all about criminal firearms usage and possession.

Personally I wouldn't even attribute that Muzza.

For a couple of reasons.

1. It pushes the agenda stricter checks can prevent incidents...which is also the agenda that pushes regulation, registration, police control of all weapons, and means when an incidents occur the expectation is to make controls even tighter each time.

2. It also pushes the agenda that "guns are inherently evil" since this guy would still be able to hurt others in a million other ways, with a car, driving a heavy truck, owning a knife collection, having powertools, drinking alcohol, even feed his kids poison, without being 'checked'. So why pick on guns?
