Red Bellied Black
I know where it lives and I have seen it four times now, even took the grand kids to see it a few days ago. They were safe in the truck. Its high on a hill in prep to going down to the lower creek country.Note the saliva flicked onto its face by the tongue.

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Yes a 12 gauge would be my only escape route. No need for snakes in the world, we get along just swimmingly without them here.

Yes. I must agree!...I " relocate " snakes....I relocate one half over there and the other half over there !!!

If you stand or threaten they react. The one above reared and flared like a cobra at one stage. I`m heard on the video as it did rear saying "ooooohhh" I was pretty close.

Beautiful photos Gryph. They’re beautiful snakes.

Saw first one this spring in the field last Tuesday. About 4m from us. Beautiful sheen and wasn’t bothered by us. Lifted its head and flared a bit but went unhurriedly on its way.

Would never harm a red bellied black.

Now browns and tigers are a different story!

still remember stuffing around in that long grass looking for the injured brown that the postie ran over and wondering if shorts and tramping boots were a good idea. then looking at you in your high gumboots and really questioning myself.

Probably the best thing you did on that trip was call me back too the car that first morning in the dark and tell me what to do if I got bitten and how to avoid them.
It kind of impressed on me how serious to take them.

I`m getting around all over the joint on a daily basis and one`s eyes are always open or at least should be. Its the time of the year where you worry for your dog(s) also. When you and K get here you will know what I`m on about...the cuntz can be hiding anywhere!

I saw a black snake while hunting last weekend. Can't say if it had a red belly, though (a mate says they can have yellow and even blue underneath).

I've just ordered a couple of 'Smart' bandages, which show the supposed tension you need to put on them and leave them on without risking your blood supply.

With them, my PLB and el-cheapo gaiters, I might feel a little more secure when I go out after sambar at the end of the month.
