RockdocGood on him. That is a big and sometimes rough ocean.
I have seen 20m swells south of Taranaki (on a rig).
Can’t imagine how it would feel to get within 80km and call it off.
A few years ago there was a fellow that did it and got within sight of land then disappeared. I think they found his kayak though.

sambarman338Some Kayak, but I guess you'd need it just to hold six weeks' food and water, let alone for shelter.
He speaks of 'we' - does that mean he and
she (the boat) or did he have support?

nobull00Spent a few days in Queenstown. They don't do anything there that won't hurt you. No place for old men.

Obviously I have not been there at all, despite making two or three trips to look for a house. The most dangerous things I saw in Queenstown were the Fergburgers.

sambarman338I'm with you, and maybe my spelling is off but I'm talking about things with enormous buns and great bits of meat hanging out

Thats what Gryphon was referring too as well.
Queenstown is not New Zealand , not by a long chalk.....it is a tourist trap of grossly expensive everything.

Carlsen HighwayYeah its not NZ at all. I don't think I have ever spoken to a New Zealand person in Queenstown.
You can spot the Kiwis there every now and then, walking down the road. Usually wearing shorts in wintertime when everyone else has their designer ski gear on.
