NZ deer cullers - book recommendations
Title says it all really - which of the many books written by the old school deer cullers would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

Mike Bennett the Venison Hunters
Philip Holden, there are about 20 of them
Tony Orman, again take your pick.
And don't forget Barry Crump, The Good keen Man. Classic in its day

Bennett's book is a favorite.

The best of the lot for me will always be
"A Pack and a Rifle" by Phillip Holden.
It's one of the few that are well written and also have a beginning, a middle and an ending. If there were one NZ hunting book to recommend I would recommend this one.

"A Good Keen Man" by Barry Crump, (And as a companion piece; "Stag Party" by Ron Helmer, who was a Canadian tourist who signed up for a summer and shot with Barry Crump.)

Both are still in print and you should be able to order them online.

Deer Hunter,by Joff Thomson, Shooting for the Skipper,Jack McNair, Wildlife Ranger,Ken Francis.
were three books written by cullers from the thirties,[although Ken Francis was never employed as a culler] ,he was a staffer who spent a lot of time in the blocks.
Beyond the Rivers bend by Max Curtis, and his brother Ross also wrote a couple or three. Mike Bennets is a good book although it deals mainly with venison recovery rather than Govt culling, which was a very different lifestyle altogether. Many lump the two eras together
unfortunately.
