Shop around for a surgeon who will do it in a public hospital and has a short waiting list and keep the rifle!

Seriously, you won't get better care than in a public hospital as a public patient and most surgeons are very good. here can be very substantial differences in waiting times.

I'm a doctor by training and have had 9 operations in the last 4 years (motor bike meets car and loses) and even though fully covered by by insurance (third party and private health) I've had all done as a public patient in public hospitals.
