Small BoreFirst time hunt in N.Z
I have been lucky enough to have an invitation to hunt in N.Z.
I will have three driven pheasant shoots and a Sika hunt.
Very much looking forward to it. If I turn up in tweeds, will I get laughed at? Not that I care much but a bit of advice regarding apparel would be nice.
How much does it rain there? I will be there 20th - 31st July.

Bring waterproof jacket gore-tex would be my advice.

There will be plenty of rain and gales of laughter if you turn up in knee length breeches

Like the pot calling the kettle black! All my friends I hunted with in NZ wore short shorts! Well I guess the whole country does, but the important thing is that, at least in the States, we put short sh

orts and tweeds on about the same category.

Bollocks, plenty of knee length tweed breeks on driven shoots. Not really practical on a sika hunt though. Which driven shoots are you going to small bore?

Just wear a white wool suit. You'll be the most popular guy around.

shanksponyYou will have fun. I just spent a day at Tunanui, and it was excellant. Tweeds will not be out of place. They have had a lot of rain for their region, and I don't think that will change anytime soon.

Small BoreAll packed and flying on Tuesday. Can't wait!
Thanks for the advice guys.
I think my host is a bit concerned that my 1870 Hammer gun might not be up to the job.
Hope to prove him wrong!
Also going to get to try and shoot a Sika.

shanksponyHave a good flight Smallbore. Turns out I know your host, you will have fun I'm sure.Don't worry about the hammer gun, its all about the experience, not the numbers killed aye.

Thats your hosts worry.

One rifle, one planet, Holland's 375
And make sure it has short pants.
BTW Frank, unless you mean some earlier effort by Harris or Henry, wouldn't
Hollands' 375 be more correct?

Small BoreJust got back and feeling a bit lagged. Waiting for flight to Jo'burg tomorrow.
N.Z was fabulous. I got the highest pheasants I have ever seen over me, shot four goats (thanks to Craig) saw the shadow of a pig, bagged driven partridges, pheasants, pukkako and even managed to drop two sika does after a lot of searching and a good stalk from 770 yards to 240, shooting two from a group of four.
Beautiful country, great wildlife, very friendly, straightforward people and the place is made for driven shooting. I'd love to come back with a motorcycle, a rifle and a few months free! Thanks to all involved in showing me a great time - Peter, Bruce, Craig, Guy, Rachel etc
I'll be back....

shanksponyIt was a pleasure to meet you, and I enjoyed our afternoons stroll. Make sure you come back in May/June for Duckshooting, and maybe work in a tahr hunt.

cleakyIt was a pleasure talking to you at Lakelands, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. As Shanks says, be sure and come back for more!
