fanny??

the_captainfanny??
Ok, what's the deal with the word 'fanny' in NZ? I was just reading my latest Zymurgy magazine, which has a very nice article on the brewpubs of the south island, and saw a sidebar that has Terminology to Avoid:
"Fanny" - Light, innocuous anatomical reference in the U.S., highly offensive anatomical reference (and not to one's behind) in New Zealand
SO, my curiousity is up. What's the whole hideous story behind this word? If the meaning is so offensive we can't discuss it on a family forum, you can PM me...

In case you aren;t aware, Zymurgy is a great magazine for homebrewers:

Down here (literally , like down-under ) Fanny means the same as the following -
pussy
twat
snatch
c**t
I guess you get the basics of it by now....
Interesting how words have different meanings in different parts of the "english" speaking world.

wirehuntBut what does it mean in the states?
Happy hunting
Here in the U.S. it's a innocent euphemism
for ones buttocks.

lundboatDepending one one's "point of view" or rather the position of what one is looking at, at that moment, these can be very close to one another

Lets be honest guys - this is definately worth splitting hairs over....
In Australia one could ask " show us your map of Tasmania " and be meaning the same as fanny...

Hence , calling someone ( ie NitroX as an example ) a fanny-faced twat would quite likely be taken as an insult, even when offered in the Anzac spirit of comradeship....

Oooooooo and so it starts......

A mate of mine has just told me he's shagging his girlfriend and her twin. I said "How can you tell them apart?" He said "Her brother's got a moustache!"

Bad Ass WallaceI think the US of A gentlemen use the term "beaver"
In our part of the world, a beaver is a sabre-toothed, flat tailed critter that builds dams and I have never figured out the association !
Hold still varmint; while I plugs yer!
If'n I miss, our band of 45/70 brothers, will fill yer full of lead!

DigitalDanHey BAW, saw Wild West Tech the other night, story about the Mountain Men in the Rockies and such back in the 1800's. Narrated by one of the Carradine boys. They mentioned the Astor fella and his beaver empire, saying that when he died he'd accumulated over $20 mil, a fortune that when adjusted for inflation would make him more wealthy than Bill Gates. Kinda makes him the Bill Gates of Beaver, what?

Well, don't know about fannys and all that down under, er, there was that gal in Sydney though... hmmm, well, here's what I use to bust buttocks here in the Northern Hemisphere, a small trubute to our English Heritage!

the_captainAlright, I think I get it (thanks Muzza). What about related items, like a 'fanny pack'? Here in the US, a fanny pack is a small bag on a belt one wears to carry items. Maybe down there, a 'fanny pack' is more of an action??

TailgunnerFanny pack = Tampon?
Nah , TG - that would be a fannypack
er!
I think we have adopted the same meaning for fannypack as you have - most of our hunting gear ideas from the last twenty years have come from you guys , we have just adapted them to suit our requirements.
Of course there are still anomalies in the english language - I can think of two meanings for the term "fanbelt" for instance , only one being automotive.....

And quite rightly too . Only time you see them called a fannypack is if they are imported from the US of A and sold under a trade brand .
I wasnt aware they made em with long enough waistbands to fit round the Northern Territory pig hunters.....

Golly - a voice from beyond the grave ( well , almost ). It must be Shaun , the courier driver from Brissy.
Certainly an appropriate thread for you to reappear in mate .....

Still got the beard ?
Sorry about my ego , but some one had to take over after you left town , but hey , I'm always ready to step aside for a true champion so - welcome home mate

I read your post a couple days ago but until now had trouble finding the suitable reply. I think it was to the point, very suitable and on-topic.

(to anyone new reading, these insults are not meant literally, a Kiwi could not really shag that many sheep in his lifetime, even with viagra, as Muzza has been accused of. )

At last some one speaking some sense. If I'm chasing fanny I'm not going to be telling you fellas about it, Though if I took you bunch of characters along it would certainly help my chances. With your banter it could make a poofta faggot townie look good.
As Tracker says Go Hard or Go Home. Thats for you Aussies and North Islanders. It means go home for you as you can't get hard even when you see some.
Happy Hunting

But not wanting to be confrontational perhaps you can share some of your "Australian and NZ Hunting" experiences, stories and photos with the forum.
Out of 27 posts I can only see one.
I too agree with "TrackerNZ" some hunting would be nice and less drivel like the post above.
