Well I'm back from my hunt with my boy. Weather was ordinary with squally rain coming through all weekend. Only heard one Red roaring but it was on the other property. Didn't see a bloody deer all weekend until the last hunt.....

I walked the boy uphill and down some bloody steep dales he did alright. First day we were contorting a hill when we heard some pigs grunting in a lantana choked gully. They knew we were there and started to move away from us. The lad had the rifle but didn't have his glasses on so didn't see the big boar sneaking away from the main mob. I called for the rifle and dropped the big bugger on the other side of the gully. Kurt took the rifle back and had a shot at the departing porkers but missed.


We didn't see a bloody thing for the rest of the weekend until we headed back to the area I got the boar and Kurt shot his first ever animal...this small porker.

It will make a nice little pot roast. . Kurts only just expressed and interest in hunting and has now got his gun license. After we cut the legs off the little porker we headed up the range back to the vehicle and we were in "Going home mode" and bugger me if we didn't bump into a small herd of Chital on top of the ridge . They got the jump on us and disappeared over the steep side...that's hunting. Had a bloody great time with my boy and his girlfriend in spite of the lack of deer.

Rifle was my Swedish Mauser 6.5x55 shooting 140gr Federals. Made a mess of his shoulder

Yeah the lantana is thick. Country is pretty steep as well
