Aspen Hill AdventuresRe: Opossum
Our possums are truly fugly animals. Next time I blast one I will photograph it for you Ozlanders. It looks NOTHING like the ones Tony shot.
They do have wonderful fur though, I sent one to be tanned so I can make some nice ear muffs with it.

Bakesly, those possum socks are probably real nice.

derfThose look more like Crats than possums. Ours are like the American ones. Off-white naked tails and very short hair. derf

BakesMuzza, I saw some possum fur socks for sale in Alice Springs, they look like a good product but they were $40 a pair

A butcher I know had one in his fridge Cryo-vac'ed, they look like a skined cat! I don't know if anybody ever bought it

muzzaBakes mate - if you want to rack-up some Pixie Points with the missus get her those possum sox - they are seriously warm and soft , but since the possum fur cost $70 per kilo before processing you can imagine why the sox cost so much .Takes about six possums to supply a kilo of fur I beleive .A local business makes possum leather goods , maybe you want some fur lined nipple warmers for her-indoors for xmas ?
Kiwi possums are much bigger than those mangy aussie ones , better diet probably . Plus our possums spent a major part of their waking time on the ground , as opposed to the aussie ones who spend most of their time in the trees .Bovine TB is a problem for us due to direct contact between possums and cattle , unless aussie cows can climb trees they arent likely to encounter a possum at all .
Derf- you are nearly right about possums looking like cats - they are as big or bigger than a cat , and definately as fluffy as a cat. And they are very tough , like a cat. And they are fun to hunt ...eyes shine red in the spotlight .

BakesThe last thing we need now Muzza is something that makes us warmer!!!
Perhaps if I get posted to Sale, I might invest in some.....what sizes do the nipple warmers come in???
