KarlNeed Help.... past magazine article..
Just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone. An article in one of our Aussie gun mags. What's the one usually with a bit of militaria on the cover-Guns Australia or something?
Anyway the article was about Afganistan, only a couple of years old. The photo showed some young dude with an Ak I think and comments were to the effect "an Ak-47 is a normal part of everyday dress over there'
The writer was also talking about a shop where one could purchase almost any military small and medium hardware over the counter. If anyone remembers the article and writer, or might have a copy please let me know.
Karl.

Feral_Gozdarwinmauser, Is it in the Guns and Game mag? Looks like the Jan-Mar 2003 edition is 1 of 2 G&G mags that have gone AWOL. I was just about to start going through the Australian Shooter collection (4 yrs worth), when I checked back to re-read the post. You saved me from going through all the AS mags, thank you. Now I need to track down my missing editions....looking forward to next conversation with BIL.

AvatarI saw one of those travel shows on Foxtel a few months ago where a guy went into one such store in Afghanistan.
Man...the whole place was just bursting at the seems with dozens, nay hundreds, of "brand new" P08 Lugers and C96 Mauser copies hanging from the racks.........drooool..

darwinmauserNo Shaun according to the writer it's a place called "Bagram". It's a village just outside the Bagram airbase in Afganistan.
Cheers
Pete
